Default Katelyn started calling milk "num-nums"....

She's 18 months old and is repeating things we say but neither one of us EVER used the word num-nums! I thought she was talking about food but she kept giving me her empty cup and saying "num-num's please!" You'd think me being her mommy would know what she meant!! It took me 15 minutes to figure it out...Do they usually just make up words for things they can't say?? She's always used something similar when she couldn't say other words Example- "Thank yee" for thank you "ni night" for good night Oodles for "toodles" (as in mickey mouse club house)-----yes she walks around the apartment saying "Ohhh oodles!!! OHH Ooldes!!!!!!" She will also say "Oh binki!!!" when she can't find her pacifier.

Anyway the question is.....is it ok for her to still make up words?

My nephew would say "nummy's" when he was Katelyn's age. I think it came from us always going mmmmm when he'd eat for us- just a guess though! CUTE!

Think it is totally normal for an 18 month old to make up words- Their vocab is just starting and they'd need to do that in order to convey wants/needs.

My boys still use the odd made up word, it doesn't matter at all, if it's how they can get a message across to you, it's all good.
