Default Katrina survivors being poisoned by toxic FEMA trailers

Will this national nightmare ever end?

It took six months for those people to GET the trailers. Now they are poisoning people with formaldehyde levels?

Who do you blame for this one?

Oh my! Well I hope they can get everyone moved and into safer housing sooner rather then later.

It took six months to get the trailers to the people in the first place. Parts of Louisiana and Mississippi are still in ruins. People have abandoned their homes. And politics as usual in New Orleans.

I seriously doubt they will move the people. They have had this long to fix stuff, and it is still not fixed. Parts of New Orleans were without power for about a year.

The storm hit Aug 29, 2005. I visited NOLA in March 2006 - AND SAW THESE TRAILERS BEING DELIVERED, FLEETS OF THEM ON I-10. Six months after the storm.

So now it is 2 1/2 years after the storm, and people still in the trailers are now being poisoned by the trailers themselves. How long do you think it will take the government to replace the trailers with something that is a permanent solution if necessary? Anyone have a guess? Another six months? A year? Ever????

The government could care less about its people these days. Its sad, but the government the founding fathers foresaw, is not the one we have today.

Do you really think, with the way they screw us on healthcare everyday, that they care about a few people being poisoned in their trailers? Ha!

That is so frustrating, maddening, sad, inhumane!!! My heart goes out to all of these people..they have suffered so much!!!

I really wish I had the financial means to be a philanthropist!! There would be so many people I would like to help and the people of New Orleans would be some of them!!!

Yeah, I saw this yesterday too. It really boggles the mind...we're supposed to be the wealthiest country in the world. Too bad we're not the most generous one...with out own people.

There's a lot of philanthropy going on down there. The problem is just staggering. It's one thing to rebuild houses, but neighborhoods and communities are another matter. For many people, it is a question of building new - and many of the craftsmen are no longer there.

I think it is disgraceful that it took six months to get these folks into trailers, as a step toward getting them to stay in NOLA and rebuild communities - and because that is a long term goal, the short term trailers are not suitable permanent or semi permanent housing. That's bad enough, especially if there is another storm. But to have the trailers actually poisoning the people who live in them WHEN THEY HAD SIX FULL MONTHS TO DELIVER THEM AFTER THE DISASTER is really an unacceptable disgrace.

At any rate, here is an update on how they are proceeding. And as usual, Mississippi has to wait to be served after everyone else.

I'm really thankful that some of my extended family members didn't receive their trailers like they were supposed to. Instead they moved in with relatives so they probably dodged the bullet there.

Um...no? Haven't you watched the news? The insurances weren't paying. Besides-what where the people supposed to live in while their homes were being rebuilt? This was all the fema trailers.
