Indulgence can do a lot of harm. Depends on your body, and your fitness level.
The thing is, don't pig out, and give yourself rewards that are not food oriented.
I am ultra cautious on vacation, because of diabetes. I've also been losing weight, and don't feel very relaxed and rejuvenated about gaining it back. So I eat a lot of salad on vacation, and carry my own low cal dressing.
My indulgence used to be local wines or beers, or mojitos. But I really cannot do that anymore with the diabetes meds I am on. So my food indulgence is seafood, and the high cholesterol stuff I will eat now in limited quantities.
A friend of mine makes the most delicious whiskey cake - he is a chef - and when I visit his restaurant, I really miss indulging in this. But it is an instant diabetic coma. You can just feel the sugar rush, even if you are normal. I avoid most desserts when I am on vacation, and I miss them.
So the rewards for me are to be more active, and fit into some really nice clothes. Drinking a lot of water during activities helps too. And if you are traveling with kids, it helps to plan to avoid fast food as much as possible, bring sandwiches you make from shopping in a local grocery store, or pick up healthy foods there instead of depending on restaurants.
