Default Lip Smacking

So we were out shopping yesterday and the whole time we were checking out Emma was smacking her lips....REALLY loudly. The cashier said that is cutting a tooth. HUH? She is only 3 months old. I have not noticed a single one of the "typical" teething signs and since she is nursing I would have imagined I would be the 1st one to know Neither of my other 2 kids got teeth this early but then again every kid can be different.

Anyone ever heard of this? Is it another one of those wives tale myths or is there some truth behind it?

Never heard of it my son did it when he learned he could do it and i think he just liked to know he could make noise, he didnt cut a tooth for MONTHS later, doesnt mean its not true but from my personal experience, she could just like the noise she has learned she can make!

Uh. . .no. Babies don't cut teeth at 3 mos. Well, let me rephrase that. . .MOST babies don't cut teeth at 3 mos. It can happen. . .but it's highly unusual. I have to agree with dhilbert. Just discovered a new and nifty thing to do with her body. You should've seen the twins when they figure out that turning their heads from side to side yielded a new perspective!

See, that is what I thought too. She is so pleasant right now and I remember from when my other 2 cut teeth...they were NOT pleasant. DH chalked it up to her liking what she ate for lunch

I agree. Just something that your baby has realized they have control over. Katelyn had all the signs for tooth cutting for months and months before she actually got it. She didn't get her first till 11 months and got her second at 13 months and she hasn't had a new one since lol She has a friend who is only a week older who has 9 teeth and seems to get a cold right before a new one pops out.

I think the noise or sensation on her lips intrigued her.
