Default little girl

Hello. i have a 16 month old daughter and she weights 19 lbs. She is very petite. the doctors say that if she hasnt grown much by the time she's 18months they are going to test her for a disorder where she cant' have gluetin. i cant remember what it's called. Does anyone else have a small child and get this to? Her father and I were small kids so i figured everything was ok because we are, but now i just dont know. now my son is 2 months old and he already weights 10.5 pounds. He was 6 lbs when he was born. and my daughter was 5lb 10oz when she was born. buy like i said her daddy didnt spurt up until he was like17.

my dd is gonna be 8 years old next month, and 2 months ago she weighed in at the doc's office at 39 pounds and was 115 cm, that is really small, the doc did some blood test and everything is ok, she eats pretty good, she's just like that what can we do....some children are just small....especially if i compare her sister who will be 3 next month too, she weighes in at 36 pounds already.

I have six year old twins. One weighs 64 lbs and the other one only weighs 39 lbs. She has always been really tiny, too. The pedi checked her thyroid when she was about 9 or 10 months and it was fine. He never said anything about a glutein allergy with her though. Some children just grow more slowly than others I think.

Yep--some kids are just small. But I wouldn't hesitate to get it checked out either. It's not the type of thing you want to leave. But chances are good she's just following your and dh's growth patterns.

Same thing happened to us with DD Alex. When we took her in at 15/16 months they told us that she is just way too small for her age. She is very short and off the bottom of the charts (bottom 5 percent I guess) for weight. They questioned my ability as a mother, and we spent 10-15 minutes talking about if Alex eats! Then they ran blood tests just to make sure she's "getting enough to eat. Enough vitamins and minerals" and whatnot! I was insulted! Of course the tests came back fine, and she's very healthy and happy.. just small! DH and I both are small people! We also had to bring her back in at 19 months to make sure she was gaining weight and getting bigger. She only gained just over a pound, and they weren't impressed, but she's healthy!

I'm sure the same thing is what's happening to you! Keep us updated!

Hello there! I absolutely have to pipe in here. The gluten 'intolerance' they would be testing for is called Celiac Disease. It is very serious, (can result in malabsorption of nutrients, malnourishment, failure to thrive, thyroid problem, intestinal cancer) but can be managed with a lifelong adherence to a gluten-free diet. DS (26mos) was just diagnosed about 6-7 weeks ago.

He was never small. He was in the 95% for height and 75% for weight. Dropped down to the 50% for weight. (not bad at all) Weight loss was not really one of his symptoms.

In general, there are way too many symptoms to list here. His main symptom was vomiting, but you don't have to be physically ill to have the Disease. (I was tested after his Dx and I, too, am positive for the disease, with no symptoms.)

The GFCF diet is not specifically geared toward a Celiac. Technically, Celiac refers to just GF. Casein need not necessarily be avoided.

Celiac is alot more prevalent then you'd think. It effects 1 in 133 Americans, but only 1 in 4000 Americans have actually been diagnosed.

If you have any questions about it, just ask. I have TONS of information. And since this is so close to my heart, I will forever research more. And if it comes down to it that she does indeed have Celiac or even an intolerance to Gluten, it isn't the end of the world. DS has been thriving on his new diet. Has been gaining weight and can now even (almost) hold up his size 2T shorts without rolling the waistband. He is happier, too. And just seeing your child thrive is all the motivation you'd need! I can help with shopping lists and hints where to buy. It gets easier!

Hang in there. You are not alone!

Thank you all who have wrote back. I feel so much better that I can talk to people who seem to care about my children. That makes me feel good. I hope she doesnt have any problems(what mother does) but if she does i feel better knowing that there are people out there that care. I will keep everyone updated.
