I'm an American living in NZ. My wife and I are in the finial stages of adopting a child from Thailand. We now need a letter from someplace stating that I am "in principal" ok to adopt a child from the US. Thai govt resquests this....any advice on where i can get such a letter?

Hi, this is for the person who is an American living in NZ, wanting to adopt from Thailand.

First no one if many people at all can answer this question for you here in NZ as for the size oof this country only 700 or so children have been adopted form Russia in the past years and rest form other places such as where you are wanting to adopt or China.

So the fact is you must of been told and explained to you buy the agency perhaps (ICANZ) here in NZ as they handles most of the International adoptions, other than completeing it just with your Social worker with out an agency helpf etc.

if this is the agency you are going through then go back to them and ask, as they are no persons on these sites that have the experince in Adoption form overseas that may help yours specifically.( one thing is that NZ has not had insituations to adopt form since the eary mid 70s) now very very few adoptions occur in NZ annually, alot of fostering yes, but not at all adoptions many of, thus yo may already know this, as you are looking over seas.

your Social Worker would of told or should of told and informed you of all these details excatly what is expected, CA Central Athority here in NZ for cyfs, have all these details .

Since alot of LAws have been toughing up on child adoptions etc, to stop any potential child trafficing, one must be under the Hage Etc. Ok you knwo this to, so your answer is you need to perhasp get your reperfances form 1-3 people whom have (KNOWN) both you and your wife for at least 2-3 yrs and can testify in wrtiing of your character. Simply as that, you dont just ask any one.. EG: you may even need to go to people of Athority who have known you both perosnally, as many refernaces can just be made up. Good luck... this is no quick way, you must Know and been known of to get proper referances depending on that countries interupratations, and expectations.
No joy somly contact head office of the wellington CA. they will give you all the facts you want, as clear as I have mentioned but need to come from them IF you have not got all details from your SWorker.

sorry about mistakes in a hurry goof luck through.. PS may be alot easier and quicker to have adopted from your own country as you are a American citizen, and thier are by far more adoptions over their for thier own people.

Just noticed your question was back in May... So whats happend simce then?? As I say Laws around adoption anywhere in the world can chage very fast, hope all went well for you both.
