Default Local Resources for Food Storage

Now, while there are a lot of places out there to buy things like wheat, if you're like me most of them aren't at all close to where you live. Which makes shipping costs a big problem. The thing is, there are probably local resources around you that you don't even know about. Or, if you know about them, I'll bet a lot of other people in your area don't.

So let's pool what we know! If you happen to know of a great place in your area to get food storage supplies, share that information with the rest of us! It doesn't have to be some local equivalent of Walton Feed. A local beehive, a great place to pick strawberries, a health food store that sells sprouting supplies, the Amish country store in the next county that sells meat grinders - all of these are things that people who live near you will be interested in hearing about. And this forum is the perfect place to bring all that knowledge together!

So, what's your favorite local resource for your food storage needs?

Default Resources

The soda pop bottling company near us has let people know it will bottle under pressure, water in their 2 liter bottles for the community members. I'm not sure how much it costs.
The LDS Church nearby has a canning factory that lets you buy food buy the case. They have good chili and stews, etc.
I have noticed wheat for sale at Macey's grocery story.
Emergency Preparedness, online and other dried food sites let you order food storage, freeze dried in cans. It is a more expensive option.
I'm looking into buying a food dryer and making my own.

One of the nice things about Emergency Essentials is their group specials. If you fulfill the requirements to get a group special (usually buying 6 cans) then you get free shipping, not just on the special, but anything else you order at the same time. It's something I've taken advantage of many times. The hardest part, for me at least, is getting other people interested so that it's easier to get a full group special order. What's an affordable price for three people buying two each, can quickly become prohibitive for one person buying all six!

Often times a health food store will special order grains for you in bulk. While I can get 25# of wheat for $13.00, I can also have my local livestock feed store order food grade grains for me also. I can get 50# of food grade wheat for $7.00.
