Default Lonely Planet Travel Guides

I have been doing research on various travel guides. I know Frommer's is one of the most popular, but I came across Lonely Planet and it's very interesting. They take a different approach, profiling less commercial restaurants, sightseeing, etc. and try to take you off the beaten path. Their Web site is http://www.lonelyplanet.com/. Does anyone know of other unique travel guides?

Although this message is reaching you a bit late, I hope you find it worthwhile reading it if you already didn't know this. However, depending on where you are planning to go, you should look for a forum based specifically on that country. For example, I frequently go to the DR or to Brazil and I look at www.DR1.com and www.brazzil .com respectively.
Hope that helps

There is another good site for people travelling to Chicago. The site is Chicago Visiting.
