Default Longest Road Trip?

What is the longest road trip you've ever been on. My longest was from Greensboro NC to Kamas Utah. A few more miles and we would have hit California, whch would have been all the way across the US. I was going with a group of friends to shoot a documentary....why did you make your trip?

My sister and I drove from Seattle to Norfolk, Va when I was 17 and she was 19. She needed to join her husband at his home. They met while they were in the army. We made the trip in 5 days and in the process visited my grandmother in ND, got lost twice, drove through a terrible thunder storm. One night we went to find a motel and couldn't find anything until 4 am, then left out on the road at 7am. I lost my contacts on route. We were in a pretty miserable state when we got to Norfolk and then got lost. It was an experience!

Probably from Memphis to Miami and back. Thought I'd never make it. Such a boring ride as it was all interstates.

We drove from San Diego to Memphis and back...um, I think three times. Well no, we did Memphis to San Diego, San Diego to Memphis and back, then just San Diego to Memphis. So I guess two total times. I loved it - there is no better way to travel than by car for me. You can stop whenever you want to (well, theoretically - hubby is that "get in the car and get there" kinda driver), get something to eat when you feel like it, but my favorite part is just seeing our great country.

I had an entire blog devoted to the Great American Road Trip at another site. It was the last big adventure before the ultimate one, parenting, for me and my wife. I had to present a paper at a conference at UCLA, so we decided to make a month-long vacation of it. We visited friends in Virginia and North Carolina, went to Graceland, drove west, did the Grand Canyon, Brice Canyon, Zion National Park, then Vegas, visited friends in San Diego, then headed north to L.A. My parents happened also to be there for a different conference and we did Universal Studios and even caught a sitcom taping. When we left L.A. we drove the northern route into the Dakotas, Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse memorial, the Badlands, and opted for two nights in Chicago. Then on to friends in Cleveland/Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, then home from there. it was magnificent. I should guest-post in the travel blog, but again, this was before we had kids!
We have made big trips -- driving when our oldest was about 18 mo. to Florida, and also the auto-train when my youngest was a baby... of course with the cost of gasoline who can afford a road trip????

In high school for credit, I planned a really enjoyable 2 week trip discovering the Western US. I planned costs for everything. My parents took our family on it! How cool:

We started in Washington state Pueget Sound area then went East to Idaho, then Montana. We went to Yellow Stone National Park then went South to Wyomying, down through Utah then Nevada. We stayed a while in Las Vegas. Later we headed South to visit Arizona to see the Grand Canyon. We then headed Westward to California and went to Disneyland and Universal Studios, staying a couple nights. We headed back North through Oregon, then home to Washington.

It was quite a trip! One I'll never forget. I think we completed the trip in less time--like a week and a half. I was homesick for my new "love" I'd met right before leaving. Later married him .

Right after my husband graduated from BYU-Provo, we did a cross-country trip to see my grandparents in Liberty, South Carolina. The company I had been working for gave me a 2-month severance pay for fulfilling my contract before I moved. We visited many of the LDS church history sites--Nauvoo, Carthage, Liberty Jail, etc. Took plenty of pictures--I have to get a picture at every Welcome to the State sign! After visiting my grandparents we went up to Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. Then to D.C. and spent a lot of time at the Holocaust Museum. Then we started heading home via Minnesota, where my husband's family is from . It was a great relaxing trip since technically I was still getting paid!

I was moving from Mapleton, Utah to Madison, Wisconsin for a new job and I drove out before the rest of my family with the cat, who hates to be in the car. The vet gave me a sedative for her, which made it worse because there's one thing worse than a nervous, meowing cat for 24 hours and that is a nervous, meowing, drugged cat for 24 hours. Meeeee-ouououou-wwwwww. I thought that trip would never end. Although the rolling green fields in Iowa were lovely.

"We drove from San Diego to Memphis and back."

Libby, that is about a 2300 mile trip! From Indianapolis
to San Diego is 2300 miles. This month, my relative
travelled there, driving a bus; that is how I knew the
distance. My family travelled to Yellowstone Park with
our RV camper.

I blogged in education about the educational road trip my son and I took in March. There are three articles total.

We drove from NJ (took about an hour to get south of Newark airport, and then it was smooth sailing) to Richmond after school. Stayed overnight in Richmond (had taken an earlier road trip there, really nice) then drove to Americus GA. We stayed there a few days, got to meet President and Mrs Carter at their church, visit the habitat for humanity international headquarters, and tour Andersonville. Then we drove to Navarre Beach, FL, for some R & R at one of the most beautiful beaches. Then on to New Orleans for a tournement he was involved in (he won of course). Then home to NJ, stopping overnight in Chattanooga. Again, traffic was great until we got close to Jersey. Along the way, he picked out all the Civil War spots we are to visit on our NEXT trip.

I was the only driver. 3000 miles. He and I agreed that his older brother has to come on the next trip. He needs someone to bother and I need someone to relief drive.

We had a blast.
