Default Loud talkers at restaurants

I know this may seem petty but what is it with all these people who have to scream in order to talk? It seems everytime I go to a restaurant there is always a few people who feel like they have to increase the volume as they talk, as if no one else is there. To me this is a sign of spoiled children who never learned boundries. It has become an 'all about me' society. I love to eat out but these people are every where. Has anyone else noticed this?

Kevin100, your rant is not a petty one at all. You are indeed correct in your belief that this behavior stems from "no-boundaries" ethos. We are indeed becoming more 'me! me!' than ever, sadly. I have traveled extensively, and this problem is indeed everywhere. I couldn't agree more strongly with you.

Have to agree that those loud talkers are only thinking of themselves
....or showing off.

One breakfast we were dining out and one man, must have thought he was an excellent cardiologist, expounded his thoughts on
cardiac caths, open heart surgery, valve surgery, etc.
It didn't bother me so much as to the topics,
but his loud voice bothered me.

On the other hand, DH, "who isn't medical" was ready to
urp over the discussion, as well as the loudness invading our
table.

What I should have done was to mention to the wait staff
or hostess to address his rudeness.

We were seated next to a table with a gentleman who not only shouted everything he said but had a very loud booming laugh. I was chatting quietly to my hubby seated oposite me and he couldn't he a word i was saying everytime this guy laughed or spoke.

No. I'm sure a loud, boisterous table full of ego-slathered self-centered people are not all suffering from a hearing problem. They're suffering from a "I don't give a s--- about other people" problem.

I'd not considered that but thinking on it the guy seemed to be able to speak more quietly to the barman and waiter so I don't think it was a hearing problem.

i'm not specifically referring to the post that ppl have made on their experiences... more on the OP saying it's a sign of spoiled children... i'm sure that in something like 95% of the cases it is rudeness, plain and simple, but you really shouldn't lump everyone into the one pile

I had the same experience the other night when I went for chinese. These people seemed to get louder and louder , as though they were competing with each other to be heard, but I don't actually think they could have heard what anyone else was saying as they were too busy shouting and it was all I could do to stop myself from standing up and saying " can you all just SHUT UP...you're NOT the only ones in this place and it's ruining everyone elses experience". I ate as fast as I could just to get away from them. these people sure had no hearing difficulties, but I'm surprised that I didn't after being in the same room as them! They seem to think everyone else WANTS to hear what they're talking about, as though discussing what so and so wore last week is something total strangers would find interesting?
