Default Make or buy?

Scarlette's first birthday is next month ((which to me, sounds insane, because I SWEAR she was just born, lol)) and I am kind of going all out for it because we have the room to now. I found this set online and it's called "Lil Princesses 1st" and it's totally adorable. But, I am torn on if I should buy a cake ((I was thinking about dressing her up in a princess costume and putting her picture on the cake)) OR I found a recipe to make a princess castle cake, but it looks VERY time consuming... Her party is on March 14th, so I don't know how much time I have to decide before I have to get on the ball here... any thoughts?

Ohhh, Rhi, can I borrow some of your princess dresses and stuff? I'm stealing your idea for her invitations

how big's the party? if it was me, i'd just buy the cake. Less time consuming and by the time it's all said & done.. $20 for a sheet cake is probably well worth it vs. trying to make it.

We had a princess themed first birthday for Kenzie. We ordered her cake- had invites made.. and put her in a tutu.

Some photos
Excuse the candle holes in the cake.

Love love love the cake and outfit! Cute, yet comfy! I think I'll just order one... With the 3 kids and working, I highly doubt I'll have time to make her a cake... oh well

Oh, and Rhi, I might be switching the date to the 21st, I don't know yet... things are still a jumble!

I would buy the cake. We got my neice's cake at Walmart for like 15 bucks and it looked almost exactly the same as the cake for ms McKenzie. It came with the wand thing and the tiara. My sil went to the dollor store and bought more little wand things and tiaras. Even the boys wanted to wear them

I apparently got jipped. We payed 50 bucks for Kenzie's(1/2 a sheet cake). We went to Publix(local FL store), though. Her party(invites, outfit, decor, food, etc) cost us nearly 600 bucks! A bit insane considering she'll NEVER remember it.

I actually used the ballet Barbie pattern and told them to leave the barbies off of it and add the crown and wand instead.

I know Nevy had a cake (princess) cake made by her Aunt. It was gorgeous(there is a thread somewhere w/ pics).

We did the "first princess birthday" theme for Emma's first birthday (today is her 2nd birthday!!!!!), and here is what we did. Just some ideas...

The vanilla cupcakes were from an ice cream cone mold that we got from JC Penney. The icing was the "ice cream". I used ziploc bags full of icing to put the icing on the cupcakes and give it a fuller "ice cream" look. The others were just regular cupcakes. We did those for the kids and then cake from a local bakery for the adults, and Emma had a little cake from the same bakery. It was REALLY worth it to know it would turn out nicely. We had it at a local restaurant and used candy and her pictures for the centerpieces with balloons.
