i watch that when it was on TV here... it was kind of funny, he was barely in labour when he called it quits... most women do at least have gas so i had no problem with that

I had only heard of the gas from my grandmother. Her Dr gave her some right before she gave birth. He apparently didn't believe in pain meds. Gas is not offered in hospitals where I live. You pretty much have an epidural, local, or nothing.
My epidural didn't numb everything like the video said it should. I didn't feel contractions except for the pressure, but *down there* I felt ALOT of pressure and quite a bit of pain. I knew I was having a baby! OUCH!

I definitely enjoyed that! and laughing when they would say "you've got about 9 more hours to go."

for some reason, american hospitals don't offer the gas. I wish they did!

When my grandmother had my uncle, they offered her gas, but it didn't help because they gave it to her right before he was born. Is it like the stuff you get at the dentist office? If so, that stuff only affects my mind, not the pain! ! Ya, I did like how she said that he had 9 more hours to go... Should should have said "9 more hours to go... if you are lucky!"
My DH though I should have recovered quicker than I did, but then I remind him that he did witness my episiotamy! He backed down then. I was quite sore afterwards!
Men think so macho-like. "I can take it!" But when they get sick it's like they are helpless kittens. My DH got bronchitis once and I remember laughing when I saw him crawling on the floor to the toilet. Before we moved out here in Cypress, I got it every year and never was like that. Even the Dr called it a light case. Now when he got the flu... that was horrible. He didn't move for 4 days. I can believe that now... The flu can really mess you up.

Very interesting video!

I can personally recall one of DH's comments during one of my labors
to the RN, "Yes, turn up that pitocin, so Angie can hurry up and have that baby!"

ok remember that is actually from an aussie show... gas is usually the first pain relief they offer here... it's oxygen mixed with nitrogen and they can regulate the mix (more oxygen the more "pain" relief... if i remember rightly), it does affect the mind more than pain, for me it just helped me relaxed and be in control of the pain and to breathe

Angie, your DH would not be living. Fortunately, I schooled DH so much on pitocin that when he saw them bring in a bag of it he quickly asked why, gave them hell for even considering it and would not let them administer it to me. (thank god! i was only at the hospital for 3 hours at that point & DD came 30 minutes after we solved my medication issues!)
