Martin Luther King Jr day
What are you doing in the USA to honor Dr King today?
We attended a church service yesterday that commemorated him and his powerful witness for justice for all people.
On Friday, in one of my son's history classes, they listened to the entire I Have A Dream speech. It is amazing to do this - to hear how he built the whole speech - not just the soundbites. Several years ago, we were driving through Alabama close to the anniversary of his death - and one of the gospel stations played the "I Have Been to the Mountaintop" speech as part of their series of great sermons. Again, wonderful to hear how it starts out so quietly and builds - as if climbing a mountain, reaching the summit.
Did anyone on this board ever actually meet Dr King, or hear him speak in person? Did your parents or grandparents have this experience, and now it is a part of your family history? Even if your ancestors were there to protest him, it's history.
Even if you are working today (its a federal holiday, but not all businesses observe it) there are still ways that people honor and keep this day. Please share yours.
