They have home tests for yeast infections now...just go to your pharmacist and ask

You probaby do have a yeast infection. Why don't you try an over the counter remedy like Monistat? You should also be able to find a generic like a Wal-Mart brand or a Target brand that would cost less $$. In the meantime, try to either take a sitz bath with very hot water (as hot as you can stand it) and baking soda. That will help relieve some of the discomfort.

When you had your baby, did your hospital give you a little squirt bottle to clean yourself with? If so, and if you still have it, you can fill it with very hot water and 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda and just kind of use several bottles of that solution to treat the symptoms. A little easier than a full blown sitz bath ! Or you can buy a squirt bottle for that purpose. When you are done- don't wipe-pat dry. Also when you toilet- pat dry- wiping will just cause further irritation. And don't scratch!

You can also use a weak (not more than 1%) hydrocortisone cream until you are better. I would not generally reccommend using a lidocain cream like Vagisil because they have fragrance and harsh chemicals in them and can actually exacerbate the problem even while relieving the symptoms. Just makes things worse and you find yourself using more and more of the stuff until you think you are addicted to it ! And no BDing until your symptoms are gone! And if you think you and dh are passing this thing back and forth (he will not have symptoms) put a little monistat on the tip of his you-know-what every night when you treat yourself so that when you are better you wont get it again. TMI I know, but I home it helps a little. I know yeast infections are irritating as the devil, so I hopw you can get some relief soon!

Good info! I honestly didn't know what monistat was for!!! I always saw the commercial and said to myself...are they talking about a UTI or..? Never really knew. But I will ask my pharmacist tomorrow and will def be using my squirt bottle. They had also given me some spray stuff they said was to clean the area after I had my baby...would that be ok to use do you think? Its called Perineal/ Skin Cleanser....by Aloe Vesta?

Hi...

But I suggest just going to your local drug store and picking up a 2 or 3 days pack of vaginal medication for yeast infections.

It is also common for womens "normal" discharge to have a slight smell and change from clearish to a slightly thicker discharge depending where they are at within there monthly cycle.

If you DO choose to go ahead with Yeast Infection treatment, if after a week of the treatment you are still worried I would visit a doctor, or local womens health clinic (like Planned Parenthood, where you can get assistance with costs). They can test you for a yeast infection plus STD's.
