Methadone support thread
i was just curious if anyone knows anything about methadone? I am on it and I would like to know what others who are on it think about it? If you dont know methadone is for heroin addicts. It is I would say a substitute and it blocks the heroin. If I went to use I would not feel the effects of the heroin. I have been clean for about 7 months now this has been the longest in my whole life that i have been clean. I am glad that I am on the methadone but I am just wondering how am I gonna get off of it?? That has been beothering me alot lately I do NOT want to go to rehab to get off of the methadone that is out of the question! So what do I do? I have been reading alot of bad things from all different people onthe internet. So I would just like to know what you think???? Like i said it probably saved my life by getting on the methadone clinic because if I didnt I most likely would be either dead or still addicted to heroin!!I have been in and out of rehabs he past 5 years about 10 times so the drug heroin is horrible to get hooked on. I lost my boyfriend to this disease. I am just happy to b here today!

I don't know anything about methadone, but I wanted to write and tell you congratulations on your sobriety! I have a younger brother who has been battleing a meth addiction for about 7 years now. I commend ANYONE who kicks a highly addictive substance. Good luck to you in your future months!

Be Strong !
I'm glad that you had the strength to quit---I hope you will
stay on a 'healthy path'---& make a full recovery---I have a
neighbor who has been fighting a really tough battle with
alcohol, sadly, his (20yr.old) son seems to have the same
problem ---when they aren't drinking, they are really hard
workers, etc. !
I'll include ya in my prayers !

It sounds to me like you have replaced one addiction with another. Is that what you are saying?

I don't know a ton about methadone, I have done some reading on it, but still, no expert here. What about methadone do you want to discuss?

Accountability. If rehab is the only way to wean off methadone, then that's where you need to go. Addicts always think there's a better way. They're always looking to do things their own way. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.
When you're ready to take that next important step in your life, you'll find yourself in a methadone rehab. It'll save your life all over again. And it won't be as bad as you fear it will be.
Baby steps. One day at a time. People, places, things. All that jazz. You can do it. There's a life out there for you-all you need to do is go for it. You do NOT want to be methadone-dependent your whole life. I don't even know if providers would allow it? Isn't there a time limit for that?
Good job though staying clean of heroine. Be proud of yourself. You've already made a major, positive change in the course your life is going in.

A friend of mine suggested this website: http://www.methadonesupport.org/
You should check it out and let us know if it is helpful or not. Perhaps you will find more of the answers you are looking for there. Good luck with going sober.

methadone
well i have been on methadone now lets see it has been almost 2 1/2 years now, i almost forgot about this website to be honest with you! i just got an email in my inbox saying that you had responded to what i had written a while ago! So here is what has been goin on with me. I am still on the clinic currently, I have a year clean as of yesterday! YEAH!!! I have been opiate free the whole time i have been onthe clinic i had a little mishap with another drug so that is why i say i have been "drug free" completely for 1 year totally!!! The clinic I attend is very strict i dont know if you know anything Pennsylvania but in Pennsylvania they are very strict with methadone. Say for instance with the take home policy! WHich kinda sucks for me. But anyway. I have decided to detox off the methadone. It was a decision that I made and i thought it through. I have been coming down 1 milligram a day and successfully. ( so far) I started out at 115 milligrams and now I am at 78 that was my doseage this morning. So i have had NO withdrawal ( honestly) every 20-30 milligrams I go and see the Dr at the clinic to make sure everything is okay. Now if I feel if it is going too fast I can stop it at any time! So We will see how it goes. I just think right now being on the methadone is holding me back in doing some things in my life. That's all. Not like goin on vacation like that but some personal issues that i have. SO i have decide that it is time to get off of it. I feelt hat it is time. I have been on it for almost 3 years and that is long enough. I dont think that I am goin to use again. I am not goin to promise that i am not but I hope that I wont. I'm an addict. The only thing I can say is that I can try, I can use the tools that i have learned how to not use and how to stay away from the drugs. So far it has worked for a year. I really honestly deep down dont think i will ever do back to opiates due to the fact that I had lost my boyfriend to them. So I really dont want that to happen to me.
So I would be really happy to chat with you any time. It would be nice to talk to someone else about methadone.

Congratulations! I can't even explain how excited I feel when I hear of someone going clean off of a highly addictive substance. That is such a great accomplishment. Keep us posted.
Perhaps you would be a great person for misty to talk to about methadone. I am the moderator for this forum, so I need to be involved somewhat, but when it comes to methadone, I know very little, other than what I can read about it. I really want to be a support for anyone who is trying to go sober. I have a brother who is a meth addict and well, lets just say I have a soft spot for those who are trying to achive a seemingly impossible task. Great work gals.
