Midwife VS Hospital
was wondering about the differences? Anyone else use both? which did you like better? After having 3 at hospitals I wanted something else for the last one. I found a birthing center, I toured it and fell in love. Actually I was in love just by looking on line. It seems so peaceful, calm, and relaxing. Plus you only stay 6-8 hours after you have the baby, no 24 hour or 3 day stays. And it cost SOOO much less, it just seems like a better deal all the way around.
After 3 kids do you think I need to take the whole Bradley method classes, or just refresher class?

I'm sure you know what your doing so I wouldn't think you'd need too. I had midwife led care with my first 3 and loved it. They dealt with Luke's shoulder dystocia. I was totally totally gutted when Josh was breech and Libby tranverse I had to have C sections. I really do feel like i'm missed out on sharing a natural birth with G.

I delivered with a midwife in a hospital with my 2nd and the experience was awesome. I had such a horrible experience with my first with a traditional Dr and hospital and was totally amazed at how great the experience was with the midwife. I am looking at doing a birth center this time around though. I know quite a few people who have used the birthing centers and all LOVED it.

I know your right Jo, been there done that. But I think the classes could help, after all I had Epi's with all 3, even thought Court's did not work in the end, I was not prepared for that. Guess I will have to ask the midwife, the BC does require all couples to take the classes.

I wish I can have one if/when we have another...up here though our health care only covers hospitals and we'd have to pay out of our pocket for a midwife. I just hope we have the $ for it So glad you get one Ollie, I bet it'll be a great experience for you

I dont have one midwife, they are share rounds at the birthing center. They have very strict rules about BP, and things like that. If its to high, and they cant lower it naturally then the refer you to a OBGYN, they have one they refer to, as well as a hospital is something comes up they can not or are not allowed to deal with. I have not had any real problems with any pregnancy so I hope this all works out.

If I had to do it all over again. . . definitely a highly qualified midwife. In fact, I was all set to deliver dd#4 in the birthing center until #4 turned out to be #4 and #5. My preference would be a midwife connected to an OB/GYN in case something happens. But definitely a midwife. Something to think about though. . .since you mentioned you had epidurals. . .is that pain meds may not be an option or there may be lots of "pressure" (for lack of a better term) to give birth w/o them. (Not that that's bad. . .just helping think through the various options. )

I want the last 2 without meds, but the hospitals kept pushing them and I gave in. However, Courtney was born after the Epi wore off, I have wanted a water birth since Kelli. Most normal hospitals seem to want to get the baby out, now now now, and rush you through things. I want to do it myself this time
This is the BC i am going to

I have always utilised midwives, always at a hospital, last time was in the birthing centre, and this time will be with the birthing centre also.
