Default mirena

Hey there everyone. I had my mirena put in about a week ago and i am already tired of the bleeding. I dont know if I can last 2 or 3 more months of this. I was looking it up on the net and lots and lots of women said that their sex drive went down, they got very depressed and a whole list of other symptoms. I havent quite got my sex drive back since giving birth 3 months ago so I cant imagine what my poor husband is going to say when I tell him it might not come back. I am considering getting it taken out. Does anyone have any comments? I think I would rather be on a pill but am worried about weight gain. Sure dont need that. Although there were also people that gained weight on the mirena. I'm so confused right now but I know I dont want to get preggo again. We were thinking about my husband getting a vasectomy. Our best bet I think. Anyway if anyone has any thoughts......

i've heard the mirena does cause bleeding for a bit.. there's another thread, i'll try to find it in a minute. but i wanted to add that DD just turned a year, and my body is just now completely back to it's old sex drive. i personally would want to, but it seems it was always a struggle for the past year on what I wanted and what my BODY wanted. just wanted to prepare you for that.

Agree with Amber-- my sex drive was juuust getting back to it's old ways (very slowly) when I got pregnant with my second. Alex was one year old at the time. For most women, it takes a really long time, if ever!

But I understand that it's difficult when you hardly have a sex drive to begin with, and then you throw something else into the equation that makes it even lower! I would totally have it taken out, if I were you! Have you considered the Nuva Ring? I used that after Alex was born, and I liked it just fine! It made PMS just a little worse, and I was crampy, but nothing outrageous! And I had no weight gain (that was due to the Ring, at least! hehe!)

Thanks for posting this thread about Mirena, by the way!! I was considering having it put in at my first post-pardum checkup, but I may need to do more research and reconsider!

With my first I couldn't wait to get the okay from the doc (of course I did) to do it...with my second pregnancy though it took me 5 months before I even thought of doing it...I would comply when dh would suggest it but I never really wanted to...I did enjoy it even though I could have done without at that point.

I have the Mirena, and honestly, if you can bare with the bleeding I think it's well worth it. My periods are far lighter than they ever were...no bloating, cramping or anything. The first 4 or 5 months were torture though, as you well know. I was ready to have mine pulled too. I kept thinking, "How can I continue like this?" But I researched and found most women had lighter periods, so I told myself to bare it for 6 months.

Seriously-when you compare all the possible side effects of the Mirena with all the other options out there, Mirena is the one with the least amount of serious side effects. Very few women actually have them, and some of them (like the weight gain or moodiness) could be attributed to any number of factors. Women rarely stay the same weight and generally do gain as they age, so I wouldn't be too quick to blame that on the Mirena. In fact, I'm about 15 lbs less now than I was when I had mine put in, so theoretically we could say you might even lose weight on it!

As for sex drive, mine is the same as it's always been. I really encourage you to keep it in at least 6 months before you decide to have it pulled.

My sister in law had her Mirena placed at her first post partum check up after her son was born. She liked it fine after the initial bleeding subsided, but ended up pregnant with twins--while the Mirena was still in place! It had only been in there for 2 yrs,so it should have still been working, but sure enough, she is having 2 babies in February. I do suppose those stories are rare tho.

Well, I'm definitely going for mirena this time around- I can't handle pills because I forget too easily, and I refuse to go back to depo provera after using that for 7+ years, and I just dislike the other options. I don't want to deal with something I have to remove every three weeks. So for me, mirena is the best option. I like the fact that it can be removed if we decide to have one more- and who knows if we will go for #4 in a few more years- but I like to keep our options open. I'm already thinking that if we don't have a fourth child before I'm 35 then we won't have anymore at all.
