Smile Mommy went to the ER

Saturday night, I got to spend a fun night at the ER. I had not been feeling well since Thursday. I had bad migrains, blurry vision, weak, just all around yucky. Saturday afternoon, I spiked a fever of 102.7 and I couldn't even get up. After trying everything to get the fever down, we decided to be safe and get me checked out. I am at 27 weeks.

So we trekked into the hospital, which is about a 45 minute drive. Of course, it had to be storming. When we got there, they were great. This hospital only deals with pregnant women and new babies. If anyone ever needs medical attention in Orlando, I strongly recommend Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women or Arnold Palmer for Children. They are both excellent.

They took me in immediately. By the time I got there, my fever was down to 100.4. They put us in a room and started me on an IV immediately. I was dehydrated again. They tested me and cutlured me for all sorts of stuff. The only thing they could come up with is that I have a virus of some sort. By the time I left, my fever was gone. They gave me tylenol and a shot of an antibiotic. They put me on the Z-pack too. This baby is going to have so many different med in her by the time she is born, she should be the healthiest kid around. They keep assuring me that it is safe for her. They told me to come back if my fever reached 100.4 again.

Here's what I learned: I thought my high fever was going to fry her little brain. Instead, it was affecting her heart instead. Her heartbeat has always been in the 150's, even when I was very nervous. That night, with my fever, it spiked into the high 170's. The doctor said the real concern was that if my fever continued it would send her into distress because of her heart. She had spent the day being extremely active. I think she was awake and kicking hard all day. It turns out that she did not feel good either.

So now, we are doing better. Still feeling yucky, but no fevers.
