Default Mother in law/Daughter in law conflict

Are there any Mothers in law here who have a conflicted relationship with your DIL? I'd like to hear from other MILS who are going through this.

Default yes, I have conflict

I am currently having a lot of conflict with my mil. I am the dil. I really want and desire a good relationship with my mil, not just for me but for my husband and my family's sake. I feel like I have tried everything to work out our confict but my mil won't talk about it. She is an avoider and stuffer of "real" issues and our family is suffering from it. Any advice from a mil perspective? If you tell me more about your exact conflicts I can try and help from my point of view.

I'm a DIL here. I don't always agree with her ideas, but I try to remember that she has a good heart and has raised a wonderful human being.

Hi, I'm a DIL too, not a MIL.

99% of the time, my MIL is great. I am thankful that she gave birth and raised my DH to be the man he is. Of course, over the last 26 years, I have encouraged him to change a bit. (He now will eat vegetables. *giggles*)

My MIL does mean well, on the rare occasions that we have disagreed.....and I talk to my own Mom about it......My Mom says, "Just remember, when you become a MIL, be very considerate of your DIL and support both your son and DIL."

Any 'huge' issues with MIL, my own DH (her son) has dealt with face to face w/ his mother. I guess that 'blood is thicker than water.'

I'm not certain of the topic of concern w/ your DIL. My Mom says that "Safe topics to discuss are the weather, the weather, and the weather."

Good luck with the DIL issues.

I'm a dil too, that's why I didn't respond the 1st time I read the thread title.

What's going on? Maybe we can offer some insight anyway.

I really don't want to give details of my DIL situation. Basically we are estranged for the past almost 5 years. She and my son are VERY difficult people to relate to. They are extremely self-focused and narcissistic. It is a hopeless situation. Three grandchildren involved. Just a sad, sad situation. There is virtually nothing I can do about it. I've tried over the years to reconnect with them to no avail and have just decided it is not worth the trouble they bring to have them in my life.

What do you think is the main problem with your MIL? I might be able to help more if you feel comfortable elaborating a little more.
