Hi, I'm a DIL too, not a MIL.
99% of the time, my MIL is great. I am thankful that she gave birth and raised my DH to be the man he is. Of course, over the last 26 years, I have encouraged him to change a bit. (He now will eat vegetables. *giggles*)
My MIL does mean well, on the rare occasions that we have disagreed.....and I talk to my own Mom about it......My Mom says, "Just remember, when you become a MIL, be very considerate of your DIL and support both your son and DIL."
Any 'huge' issues with MIL, my own DH (her son) has dealt with face to face w/ his mother. I guess that 'blood is thicker than water.'
I'm not certain of the topic of concern w/ your DIL. My Mom says that "Safe topics to discuss are the weather, the weather, and the weather."
Good luck with the DIL issues.
