Default my baby hates "tummy time"

My baby is 3 months old. She had colic really bad, but seems to be over it for about 3 wks now. She hates tummy time. When we put her down to nap it is on a pillow on her tummy, that is the only way she will nap. I stay with her cuz I know the pillow is not a good idea, but it is the only way. We have tried on her back, on her side & on her tummy w/out the pillow, but she will only nap on the pillow.
Now at night she sleeps on her back just fine. ( how strange)
But during her naps on her belly she will only turn her head to the right. Always. and when I hold her and burp her it is to the right. If she is on her back she has it to the left. (so I know she can move it) and when she is in the Bumbo chair or her swing it moves either way. She holds her head up on her own in the chair, and when we hold her.
But for tummy time she turns her head to the right or burrows head down into the ground and screams and cries.
Should she be holding her head up at tummy time? Is it normal for a baby to be so picky?
will she ever learn to roll over if she refuses to be on her belly????
any suggestions? thank you!

Aiden Hated and still hates being on his stomach. I suggest not putting your little girl on her tummy esp if she is colicy.
Did you know that any time that she is not on her back is considered tummy time? When you hold her, have her sitting on your lap..give her a cuddle it is considered tummy time.

Have you talked to your Doc about this? It may be that she has reflux. Usually babies with reflux sleep better on their backs or proped up by a pillow... either way he/she may give you a few pointers about helping her sleep. Also you could go to Askdrsears.com It is a wonderful resource site with lots of good information to help you get through difficult times.

Good luck

Don't worry. She'll learn to roll over. When time has come and she feels like being on her belly she will try. But every baby is different so don't get confused by any time tables that say a baby does this or that at a certain stage. Ds didn't sit on his own before month 8 or 9 so I was worried if he'd walk in time. But then he decided to crawl and walk earlier than the other children in the playground. We also had it that ds only slept with his head on one side. But that was just his habit. Today he sleeps on every side and everything is fine.

Conner hates tummie time too. He didn't roll over until very close to his 6th month, and I'm sure he could have done it at LEAST a month sooner-but he dislikes being there so much he just didn't see the point!

But rest assured, you baby will roll when she wants to, and not a second sooner

Default Tummy Time is So Over Rated

Your baby is so young. . .this is totally normal behavior. There was a thread somewhere else about this too but why on earth "experts" recommend putting a baby on their tummies so that they can be forced to hold up their heads and exercise their neck muscles is just beyond me. If you want your baby to practice holding up their heads then just carry her and hold her lots. Eventually she will be quite interested in looking around and she'll want to hold her head up. This goes for rolling over too--like pp said, she'll do it when she's ready. You don't need to forcer her to have tummy time at all.

Grace was the same way, and then one day I put her on her tummy and she lifed her head right up. She will now do tummy time for about 5 minutes or so before getting sick of it. Don't worry, she'll get there. I don't think Grace started lifting until the middle of the 3rd month.
