My Heart Aches
All you dear mothers with newborns just wait!
In a blink of an eye, it will happen to you too.
DS#1 (21) is taking summer school to get ahead on 2
classes for the fall.
He will start his 4th year this fall,
but because of extra classes & summer classes
had enough credits to be a senior since last semester (at 2 1/2 yrs of college.)
Most engineer students are on the 4 1/2 to 5 year plan for a degree.
We are pleased he'll be done in 4 years.
I thought this was the last summer he'd be home for the summer.
He'd done this the past 2 summers.
This year he has an apt. and it is a year around lease.
He's been home 3 weeks between semesters now
and I like having him at home.
He'll be home a couple of weeks in August after summer session
and before the fall semester starts.
"I thought he was mine!" and he'd be here one more summer.
My heart feels very heavy. I even cried about it on Thursday PM, realizing
how life changes. I'm not a crier at all.
Got home late tonight and did baking for him to take back to college.
Made 2 big pans of rice & mushrooms with chicken breasts for his freezer,
a batch of vanilla cupcakes,
and a huge bowl of Frog Eye salad.
We're really proud of DS#1!
Just so you know
......about The Roots and the Wings part of parenting...
In retrospect:
The Roots part is very easy (even birthing, even 2 yos, even the teenaged years).
The Wings part is very painful for me right now.
It's been our goal for 21 years and
this is the toughest part so far!

Oh Angie-you're gonna make me cry...
I can't imagine ever letting go of my dd!
I know how hard it must be for you. But I have to say, WOW what a great job you've done of raising your boys! They sound like very responsible, loving young men. And by pushing them to be successful and on their own, while at the same time letting them know their home with you is always there-you have laid some great foundations on which they can build their adult lives.
Gosh it sure would be nice if our babies could be with us forever.
Sending you a great big !

Awww
If you need someone to talk to, even though I've not yet had to deal with this, I am always here. I hope you know that!

Yes, in packing up and tearing apart DS 1s room I have those feelings too, and I think he does as well. It is difficult.
New start in life. You miss not having them around.

oh (((HUGS))) I was just crying because my 14-year-old is having her first formal dance tomorrow night, and I just want to hold her as a baby one more time-smell that newborn-ness about her once more-you know, all that.
It must be in the air. I'm having "empty nest anxiety" tonight.
I can only imagine what you must be going through right now. If it's any consolation-it shows what a terrific mother you've been to raise such a bright young man!
