Default My special Mother's Day treat...

... was going to the local SPCA and picking out a puddytat!!!

We've been wanting a cat for ages (plus we have a few unwanted visitors in the house who may be deterred by a feline presence) so we've been keeping an eye on local adoption ads. Today we had just passed by the SPCA on our way home, made a snap decision, and literally turned the car around to go check out the pudders.

There were several rooms of cats, and in the first room was this sweet little tabby with a white chest -- approximately 5yrs old, spayed and declawed, and she immediately came up to us for attention. Even though we looked at all of the cats, it was truly love at first sight; when we were about to go back in and see her again, she looked up and meowed at me through the window -- I swear she was asking me to take her home!

Anyhow, we have filled out the papers and should be bringing her home tomorrow. We plan to name her Random.

I will post a pic as soon as we get her home -- we should have her sometime tomorrow, just waiting for the go-ahead to pick her up after our application is processed. I can't wait!

Random came home early this afternoon! Here is the pic they had posted on the SPCA website:

Heeheehee... she looks ticked in this pic, but you can still see what a pretty face she has. I haven't had a chance to get any new pics -- trying to let her settle in with a minimum of stress, and that doesn't include camera flashes lol. She does seem to be right at home though -- her tail went straight in the air as soon as we let her out of the carrier, and she immediately started investigating the entire house. She has already eaten and used her litterbox (good signs, yay!), and also took a nap earlier between my knees on the recliner footrest. She's an absolute sweetie.

One minor drawback that I'm working on though -- the sneezing has begun. Yup, I'm allergic. However, we not only wanted a cat, we really need one to help deter the mice... So the plan is lots of handwashing and housecleaning lol. As long as I don't let her climb up in my face, or touch my face after petting her, I seem to do fine (allergy pills are also good lol). Knock on wood, neither of the kids seems to be having any kind of reaction to her, so that's awesome. Keeping my fingers crossed, because it will take a pretty extreme situation for me to let her go now!!!
