Default My Wife has Major Fatigue with her M.S.

My wife has M.S. and really struggles daily with fatigue. She has tried every prescription you can think of for her fatigue. She also drinks 1 to 2 energy drinks a day. Still, some days she cannot function and needs to take a nice long nap. No pill or drink can ever take the place of sleep.

Luckily, she does medical transcription from home and her job is very flexible. I stay home with the kids and try to be "Mr. Mom." I work part-time at a church, I write for Families.com, and I home-school 2 of our 4 kids. Now I'm starting to need those energy drinks. We are looking for natural alternatives to health problems and believe that nutrition and exercise are critical for better health, and a better quality of life.

We have read a lot about detoxing the body - especially the colon and the liver - in order to clean out the junk in our bodies. The next step is to eat a more natural diet, and use good nutritional supplements that are not found in enough supply in the food we eat to help maintain our health. Some of the best literature we have read includes, Jon Barron's: Baseline of Health, and, Sue Ellen Dickinson's: No More M.S., My Journey Back to Life.

If anyone out there has any suggestions on some other literature, or natural alternatives to M.S. (especially for fatigue) let us know. We would love to hear from you.

Have you considered the possibility that she has undiagnosed Lyme disease? This happened to my sil even though she tested negative for Lyme disease originally but then went to a Lyme disease specialist, had her blood work sent off to several labs and it came back positive for one of the more rare forms.

Default Thanks for the Suggestion

No we have not considered that - I don't think so anyway. I will ask her about that. I think she would be open to checking that possibility out. She had several tests done prior to her M.S. diagnosis, which included an MRI. The neurologist advised that the lesions on her brain were consistent with M.S. Additionally, her other symptoms were also indicative of M.S. (electrical sensations in her arms and legs, leg spasms and cramps, and episodes of short term memory loss).I ask her about the possibility you mentioned. Thanks.

Yeah--same with my sil. She had the MRI, etc. A lot of Lyme patients are frequently misdiagnosed as MS patients. In my sil's case she has both. . .but it was the Lyme disease that contributed substantially to the fatigue. She has primary progressive MS so I can't really say she's getting better. . .but the fatigue was helped substantially by treating the Lyme disease. She also use altenative means to deal with her MS.

Yoga has been shown to reduce MS-related fatigue.
