Nappy Time!
Alex is about 16 months old now, and she's still taking two naps. (Believe me-- I don't mind!!) The first one is usually a pretty long nap, too, sometimes over two hours! The second one isn't quite as long, but it's not short, either. While I love the time to myself, I'm worried that she gets too much sleep, and that all the sleep she does get isn't good for her. She can hardly go 4 hours without needing a nap. She sucks her thumb and lays on the ground like she's tired, so I give in and put her down for a nap. Does she need these naps? Am I spoiling her? Any advice? When should she be having just one nap?

my oldest DD was the same way...even now at 2 1/2 people are amazed that she still naps everyday...if she doesnt get laid down, she will fall asleep on the floor at 5pm!
Let her sleep...if shes tired, it means she needs it!! Kids dont sleep just because. If she werent tired you'd be fighting her tooth and nail to get into bed! Enjoy it while it lasts...DD stopped taking 2 naps a few months ago and now just sleeps once for about 2-3hours. And she sleeps through the night 11-12 hours straight.
enjoy it!

You guys are sooo lucky. Ellamae hardly ever sleeps. She goes to bed at 10pm and is up around 8am. She maybe takes a 45min nap late morning and a couple 20 min naps in the evening. Some days she goes without naps. If I can get her to take a good nap she is a much nicer baby! She used to get up every 3 hours during the night but this weekend she started getting up once at 5am. It was so nice getting sleep this weekend! As long as she is sleeping through the night I wouldn't worry about it.

if she sleeps fine at night also i would let her sleep too, some babies like adults need more sleep and it's ok. My 2 1/2 still naps 2 hours every afternoon...

Kaydee (5 months) barely sleeps during the day too...she sleeps pretty much through the night (last night she slept from 10:30pm-6:30am, then 7-8am) but doesnt nap too much, except like Ellamae, 20 mins here and there...im with you on the sleeping through the night....thats better then having her nap all day!!

I think that extra sleep is just fine and if it keeps her Happy then let her sleep! My DD usually sleeps 11 hours at night and takes a 4 hour nap around lunch time. When we switched her sleeping arrangement it changed things for a few days and she didn't nap and she was such a rude baby without her naps!! I'm so glad she's adjusted to her new bed and will sleep like normal again although sometimes it is on the floor instead of bed. All people have different sleep requirements.

Thanks for the advice, ladies! Glad I'm not the only one with a sleepy baby! And ruthann-- that's too bad that she hardly takes naps during the day! LoL! How do you get anything done??? hehe! That's wonderful that she sleeps through the night, though!

My daughter is 17 months and sleeps 14 hours at night and 2 during the day. All kids are different just follow her cues and you can't go far wrong.

If it's any conoslation Ruthann--my DS went through a period where he didn't nap either when he was about 3-4 months old. People were amazed and constantly told me that they'd never heard of a baby that young not sleeping.
Well . . he eventually got himself on 2 2hour naps/day, plus sleeping through the night! That was heaven!
He is now 19 months old and sleeps about 12 hrs/night, plus a 2 hr. nap during the day. There is hope--your daughter's sleep habits may change!!!

I always encouraged napping for as long as they would cooperate with it. My twins are 5 years old and one of them still takes an afternoon nap pretty regularly. If she misses her nap, she disappears around 8-8:30 pm and I will find her asleep in her bed, !
