Prescriptions differ depending on the country you are in, £7 and a few pence in England, £4 in Scotland, £0 in Wales, £3 in Northern Ireland.

Then if you have certain conditions which require constant medication, such as diabetes you will never pay for prescriptions or if you are under 18, over 60, on benefits/your partner is on benefits or you are pregnant. In England and Scotland if you have over 14 prescriptions a year, you can either get a pre-pay or a semi refund, so each prescription is cheaper. If you have less prescriptions that this a year a pre-pay isn't value for money.
Where ever you live in the UK and no matter how old you are all contraception is free, no prescription charge.

I live in Wales, so this means dental prescriptions are free, so if I need a special type of toothpaste or mouthwash, I can receive a prescription for this as well. Opticians prescriptions for drops are included apart from eye drops for contact lenses.
