need a quick answer....about breathing in water (Updated)
We took Kate to the beach yesterday...and I know she got some water in her lungs but I'm not sure how much. Today she keeps coughing...like coughing so much she broke blood vessels in her face. I'm not sure what to do but our insurance is over on monday..................so I guess we're going to the hospital. I'm just worried. Anyone have any ideas???

She should go to the ER just to have a chest x-ray, especially with insurance being up on Monday. It's better to be safe than sorry!

Take her to the hospital. There is a condition called Dry Drowning which can happen after a person has inhaled a small amount of water.

Yeah, I think it might have been on this board where I read about the little boy who drowned hours after being in the pool. Inhaled the water, coughed all day, and then drowned in the inhaled water. Scary situation. I hope you took her in! Let us know how things turn out.

I took her in to the after hours place for kids...the doctor checked her and said her lungs sounded clear and its weird cause her nose is clear too.....but I asked for a x-ray to make sure anyway. It was hard cause I had to leave her cause I am pregnant......but she felt better after she had her mommy back. The x-rays showed her lungs are clear so the doctor said it could be from the flu shot she got the other day or it could be asthma....or it could be from her molar coming in. I guess the drainage is going down and she's choking on it instead of it going in her nose. So naps are going to be tough for a few days I guess...and hopefully it's not asthma. (I don't really think it is. I have asthma and know what that sounds like and she just doesn't sound like that)

you did a good thing by taking her and demanding they double check
so you know there are some severe signs of dry drowning tho:
Kids not acting themselves (pooping in their pants for instance, when they have been potty trained for quite awhile)
severe exhaustion...like can fall asleep at the drop of a dime.
They said the exhaustion is because the kids arent getting enough oxygen through their bodies
coughing would actually be an ok sign because that means the lungs can fill enough to let out a cough, which takes a ton of air
glad to hear she is ok, and sorry you got a cold!!
