Need advice
I have been posting under the prayer request for my SIL who was having blood pressure complications towards the end. To make a long story short the docs took my SIL by c-section (her 3rd) to have her little girl. SIL had complications during the c-section where the docs could not control the bleeding. They ended up doing a histerectomy (sp)....is this normal? SIL just turned 30 on 10/1

I m so sorry to hear about your SIL. I have heard of this happening before it probably was a last resort but was done to save her life or she could have massive blood loss and pass away. Thank goodness she has one bub, I have a friend that lost her bub in the op and is unable to have more kids.
hugs to you SIL. How is her little girl?

I just heard that after they took the baby her uterus was not contracting but growing, so a drain was put in, and this was done 2 times and it was not working so by the 3rd time they did a histerectomy.
My neice (I love that sound!) is in the NICU she is having problems breathing but should be ok to have her surgery in the near future.

I have heard that this does occur sometimes and it would've been a last resort for sure...I am sorry that this happened to your SIL... I hope that her recovery will be smooth and that your niece's surgery will go well...Congratulations on your new niece btw...Will continue to pray for your SIL and your niece too...

Yes. . .this is one complication of a c/s--especially repeat c/s. It was likely her uterus or her life. My only c/s was my 2nd twin and I hemorraged badly. I nearly died. My doctor went through heroic measures and then some to save my life and my uterus bc at least before the twins, we were planning on more.
However, with your sister, removing her uterus was probably the best option given her situation. This was her 3rd c/s right? It wouldn't be advisable for her to have more kids after a 3rd c/s but then on top of that since this delivery was complicated it really, really wouldn't be advisable. If she hemorraged for this one, she would most likely hemorrage for the next one too. Scar tissue is a real issue in c/s surgery. You can tell her to rest easy knowing that they did what they had to do to make sure that new baby had a mommy around for quite awhile.

I feel bad for my BIL he had to make this decision with out my SIL knowing what was going on. SIL and BIL have 2 sons now and they were advised after the second son not to have anymore children for health reasons of SIL, but SIL wanted that baby girl...and she somehow got pregnant and a little girl they have!
It's kind of a blessing now that they have 2 sons and a little girl. I just wish they would move back home!

Lindsay, i am so sorry to hear about what your family has had to go through. that must have been hard for your brother to make that decision. atleast at the hospital where i work, hysterectomies are not a hasty decision, they are done (like the others have said) for lifesaving measures. i hope that your SIL feels better soon and her, your brother and nephews can welcome their new girl into the family!!

Thank you for the update. Sounds like prayers were answered and both Mom and Baby Girl are on the road to good health.
When the hemorrhage issue goes that quickly, save mother's life vs saving her uterus, it is best to make a fast decision and save the mother's life.
Fetal demise (newborn death) is a very sad, sad outcome. Even worse is where there is maternal demise (mother's death during or just post delivery). This is not only very difficult for the family with mourning, but the hospital staff also mourns for these families of both mother and baby.
Glad to hear she got her baby girl after the 2 boys.
I have heard other cases, people that I know had similar stories.
Luckily the outcome was both a healthy Mom and healthy Baby.
Even with removing the uterus, that is the best anyone could hope for.
They both must have had guardian angels closeby!
