Default need advice.

Ok so I am only breast feeding at night now. And am mainly bottle feeding during the day. When I talked to my Dr he said that I should have af return due to the fact that I am not stricktly breastfeeding. Now I now I have read Val say that usually your first AF isnt ovulatory but i am concerned. I am not sure if this no return of AF is just because I am still nursing once in awhile or if it could mean something else. Any one have any thoughts

well it is possible that it's due to you are still BFing at night, but didn't you have mucked up cycles before anyway, if so it could be that or if you are't using any BC (or you think it might have fail) then PG is possible... i would POAS just to get that possible out of the way, but i remember you take ages before a test shows a BFP so that might not help

Women's fertility tends to return in stages. Since you are well familiar with ttcing. . .I would suspect that you would recognize those stages before af returns. However, what I say doesn't apply to you bc you're only bfing at night. Sorry!

I didn't get af back until my DS was over a year old and I was nursing about 3 times a day...I thought I could be preg but never was of course. Enjoy this time without af!

Well thats interesting. All of my concerns showed up in other posts. I does take me ages to get a positive result now I know that is always a possibility that I could be 8-10 weeks if I was pregnant because of the timeline of events. I am just concerned that my dr said that I should have AF back and so far it is definatly a no show. I did have longer cycles before when TTC they on average lasted anywhere from 40-50days so my cycles could still be screwy. Dr and I both hoped pg would have helped that since it wasnt pcos or anything causing the issue. I dont kow I am just talking myself through it out loud I guess. I wouldnt be angry if I was pg again we are not trying but not preventing either. My two SIL who were pregnant when I was both think they could be again and the running joke is when only get pregnant in threes in our family. I was pregnant with my husbands first with my oldest SIL and a family friend then with jaxon it was me and the two youngest SIL.

IME, both personally and from talking to others. . .it really is different for each woman. I always got mine back 14 mos pp or later. My best friend and SIL do not get theirs at all while bfing. . .even if they are bfing once a day or even once a week. The amount of prolactin each woman needs to prevent ovulation is different for each woman--just like cycles and all else. I will say that prolactin levels are higher at night so in theory if you're only nursing at night. . .that could be enough for you to prevent ovulation.

While bf is a very effective mechanism of bc. . .it really would not be reliable in your case. As far as fertility returning--if I were in your shoes I would watch for signs. A woman's fertility almost always returns in stages. . .but for some woman that happens more quickly. So generally, the first af is anuovulatory (gosh did I spell that right?) but not always. When it isn't, there is still a progression through certain stages of returning your cycle to normal--whatever that means for you. It's just that the progression is much more rapid. (Hope that makes sense.)

I'm still af free Kristin and I totally stopped bfing when Nevy was 4.5 months. I was only doing night feedings from 3-4.5 months. I have an ob/gyn appt. on tues. so I will see what my Dr. has to say at my 6 week PP visit I was told if af didn't come back (by 6 months and I wasn't bfing for at least 2 months) she was going to put me on BC! Which I wont go on hehehe. So I've just been POAS once a month to make sure I'm not pregnant and waiting for af. I may get natural progesterone pills to help things along but thats as far as I go. I would say POAS and see. What could it hurt to just see? If af doesn't return and your not pregnant what do you plan to do? Wait, BC, Provera? Just wanted to know cause I'm in the same boat!

Birth control is NOT an option for us. We had to try so hard for Jaxon that we decided that we wouldnt prevent at all. I think honestly I would just wait it out if I wasnt pg. I dont have any appts for awhile. so Who knows. When I was TTC the dr had me get over the counter progesterone cream that is sold at walmart. And it worked as well as provera did. I was told to rub a tablespoon on my abdomen for 10 days and it worked like a charm. (cheaper than provera) I dont know what I will do though. I think Honestly it isnt going to kill me if I dont have AF but I honestly dont think I would be upset to see another positive test.

i would just POAS every month or so til AF came just to see if there was a BFP.... just on the other side of things; i'm still almost exclusively BFing (Gabby gets solids maybe once every 3 days or so - we've just started on them so we are taking it slow), she does have feeds in the middle of the night, just not every night (tho lately she has been every night) and AF came back for me on Saturday... just goes to show that every woman is unique
