I like pink, "Pretty in Pink," but in 4 - 5 years, she'll be sick of it.
Horses, dolls, dollhouses, abcs, merry-go-rounds, princess themes
will all outdate in a couple of years too.
If you go with pastels or primary colors on the walls, you can change the linens & accents
as she matures.

I am a big fan of using magnetic and chalk board paint. For my girls' room (some of which isn't finished yet) we painted it a pretty pastel yellow. On the door we used magnetic paint (you can get magnetic paint at a craft store and then paint over it w/any color) so that they have a place to put their calendars, papers, etc. On another part of the wall, we are working on a mural that includes some chalk board paint (which can also be covered with any color) and they can use to draw on the wall. The bedspreads are floral but we chose the pastel yellow bc it goes with a whole bunch of colors so if they decide that beach monkeys is the next great thing. . .then yellow will work. I'm kind of rambling but hopefully that gives you some ideas?

I bought my DD black furniture, and all of it "grows" with her. Right now it's a crib, combo unit, rocking chair, and bookcase. When she gets older, the crib converts to a toddler bed or a full size bed. The combo unit is just a dresser when you remove the changing pad. Then, I can just change the linens as she gets older. Right now, her room is black and white polka dots and hot pink. Then, we have paintings and prints of black cats on the wall. By keeping a lot of the linens solid, we can just accent with different things (like if she doesn't like cats and wants pigs) or we can just change the curtains and sheets (like if she hates pink and wants blue). I also picked a more grown up theme since I know she's going to grow out of the baby phase quickly.
I like Valorie's idea of chalkboard paint. That stuff is amazing! I never heard of magnetic paint, but I think it sounds so cool. So, I would pick colors that will grow with her and accent with the chosen theme. That way you can hold on to the big stuff, and you won't feel bad about changing the them since it will only be just linens and accessories that are changing.

Thanks. I'm into the more grown up and less specific themes too. One year ago (if even) my 4yo was in a 'Dora' phase and swore to me that she wanted a Dora room. My girls have to share a room so it wasn't even an option but. . .now she is into My Little Pony and Dora is who again? The less specific you keep things and/or the more versatile, the better.

Decorating child's room
Hello,
You can check the 'art for your child' selection at www.artchestra.com (go to wall art and you will see it).
The paintings are not your usual kids' paintings but if you want something that will grow with your kid, you may like them.
Good luck!
