Exclamation Need Help from a potty training Pro!

I am so frustrated... My 16 month old keeps going #2 (eeewwww) in the Bath tub!!! I've been putting her on the potty for like an hour before she gets in and she still goes in the tub. I have no idea what to do now. Does anyone have any ideas?? Please help.

What if you just had her put her feet in while her diaper is still on so she goes into her diaper instead of the bathtub? I read that you can do this with babies cause the warm water makes them go...it might be more for #1, but it's worth a shot. Or try giving her a bath right after she's gone potty, even if it's in the middle of the day (if that's possible for you). HTH

I'll try putting her feet in the batthtub with her diaper on, that sounds like it should work. I did try putting her feet in a small tub once while she was on the kiddie potty but I wasn't too successful with that. Well... thanks for the ideas..Hope it works

Are you in a rush to potty train her? (I know some people have a 'deadline' so their kids can get into preschool and what not.) If not, the idea of giving her a bath after she's pooed is a good one, IMO. Warm water works on your bladder but not on your bowels.

If you have to potty train her now, does she consistently go at the same time every day? (I mean with bm.) If you watch her carefully she'll give cues that she's going (I'm sure you've seen them) and instead of letting her go in her diaper, grab her real quick and stick her on the potty.

BM is a much harder skill to master than pottying. It is very, very normal for kids to be able to go potty and be completely potty trained. . .except for bowel movements. Not that it's less frustrating--just common!

Default ..ther it is

I'm not in a rush to potty train her,but I'm definitely trying to eliminate the tub bm's. It's been difficult to figure out lately when she is going to go, because she usually goes first thing in the morning, now it's whenever. Thats why I was sitting her on the potty first in hopes that she would go, but she will sit there for hours. She has gone on it before but only because I caught her. Its definitly going to be a task, I have to get better at looking for the signs. Thanks for thie advice

I soooo getcha! That's never fun to clean up! Maybe try associating a somewhat negative consequence w/ pooping in the tub. . .I think when my kids did that we would take them out and sit on the potty which they hated bc they wanted to be in the tub. We didn't make them sit for long but we did do it every time. . .and then maybe try associating a positive something with going in the toilet? Stickers are good but our #1 potty training 'treat' is cool sparkly (or foamy) hand soap. . .maybe in a special jar of their favorite character if you can find it. They only get the cool hand soap if they make it in the potty?! Or you could do what my dh does and put bubble bath in the tub so that you don't know she pooed until afterwards! (EEEEEEWWWWW)!

It's funny that you mentioned that,
Or you could do what my dh does and put bubble bath in the tub so that you don't know she pooed until afterwards! (EEEEEEWWWWW)!I
I found the unpleasant suprise as I was washing her.
I did make her sit on the potty the last time she bm in the tub while I cleaned it. She wasn't that happy. If she does potty in her chair we give her lots of praises by clapping , high fives etc. she loved that
I'm definitey do the soap idea, that's a good one too. So you are the potty Pro!

Sooooooo not the potty training pro! But I've trained 3 (took less than a week for all of them but that's another story) and they all needed different 'tricks' so I just have a lot of different things that worked for us. The soap is the only one we used for all of them.

Have you noticed a difference in her b/m? My cousins daughter got to where she wouldn't go unless she was in the tub. She had been potty trained for quite some time and was wiping herself. When she finally figured out what was going on she felt terrible. Her daughter had been constipated and it hurt when she was on the toilet. Her back and stomach would relax enough w/ the warm H2O.
You might also want to try swimming diapers in the tub until she quits. It doesn't make such a big mess and you can always spray her off in the shower afterward.
