Default New Calling Help!

This is kind of a funny way to receive a calling...today we had a message on our voice mail from the CES person in this area. He said that he needed to give me the information for my new calling as Seminary teacher so I would be ready to teach in the fall. I didn't even know I was being called!

Anyway, I need help. From what I've heard about Seminary here, it is once a week. The problem is that I have four small kids - 6, 4, 2, and in August 4 months - and a husband who is frequently out of town or leaving for work very early (it changes on a daily basis because he goes to different areas for his job, rather than an office). Actually, the plan was for the kids and I to go with him, but at least once a week I guess I won't!

So I'm facing a fall with four small kids, teaching Seminary. My two oldest LOVE the youth in our branch; my 6 yo DD thinks she is part of young women's. I have some hope of getting the two of them to sit quietly or read quietly, but what about the two yo and the baby?! I suppose I could start working with the 2 yo now.

I have no idea what to do - I'm still in shock over the calling, frankly - and would love any suggestions. This is going to be one interesting calling. On the plus side, I'm looking forward to it, since we have some wonderful youth. I'm just still in the 'wow - what?' phase.

, wouldn't it be funny if this was a mistake and he called the wrong person? In the meantime, I already can see how Sunday will go:
Me to branch president: So, I hear you have a calling for me.

This whole situation is somewhat hysterical!

Thanks again!

Wow, that is interesting. I guess they assumed DH could watch the kids while you taught. If you really are being called to this position You could see if there is another sister in the ward who would be willing to watch your children while you teach. If you are teaching at home, the kids could just be in another room. If at the church building you could see if the Nursery room would be available. If you don't feel like you could ask someone to watch them ask the Bishop to "call" someone as the Seminary Teachers Nursery co-ordinator. . Good Luck to you.

Or could you have a neighborhood teen to babysit once a week for these sessions?

Thanks, guys! I got some double good news today. Since we are in such a small area, our seminary is home study, so we only meet once a week, and that in the evenings, when I should be better able to locate babysitting. <whew>

The downside is, apparently it is recommended that you not have any other callings if you are a seminary teaching, so they will be releasing me from my calling in the RS Presidency. On the one hand, I'm relieved not to have two highly time consuming callings, but on the other, I've really enjoyed the experience. Still, I have to admit, I'm more excited about the seminary than the other, so it's all good!

Thanks again for the suggestions!

I would arrange to have one of the parents of the youth watch your kids. You could have them sign up in a rotating schedule and have them in the nursery or a nearby room. Since your branch is small and spread out, I bet the parents are going to just hang around during Seminary anyway! Congrats on the calling! I'd like to do it someday, but I am currently not a morning person--that is how they do it in my area!

I teach R.S. once a month currently and reallly enjoy studying for it. I think that will be your favorite part. I found a fun online game that seminary students might like to play at home or in the few minutes before or after class at http://www.ldsgreats.com/index.php?o...724fb5a2061afa
They can match the apostles photos with their names and compete to get the fastest time. Have fun and take people up on the offers for help, especially from the seminary students' parents. The will appreciate a good teacher for their precious ones during these critical years.
