Sad compared to what you are used to....
The three major grocery chains (not including Walmart which doesn't double at all) are Meijer, Krogers, and Marsh. All double up to .50. Anything over .50, is at face value. Krogers and Meijer let you double up to 2 of a coupon. More than 2 is at face value. Marsh, which tends to have the worst deals, only allows you ONE coupon up to .50 that doubles. Often Marsh might have one or two things that are a great deal, but when you can only use one of cpn, it often isn't worth the effort for me to go there (my store's hard to get in and out of). IMO, Meijers overall tends to have the best deals. But it really depends on the week, how close stores are to you, and how the attitude your stores have toward folks that use coupons. Meijer's 15 min away from me. So many weeks it isn't worth driving there to save .50 over Kroger which is 2 min away.
If you are hoping for special super double or triple weeks---DREAM ON!! It's been about 15 months or more since we've had them.
Indy used to be very competitive w/ lots of super doubles/ triples and bumping .55 to $1. But all that left in the last 2 years. On the good side, Indy's cost of living is lower than many parts of the country.
Aldi's chain is a noncoupon accepting store (doesn't have many name brands anyway) w/ good prices on some basics. Very no frills:no bags, carts need a quarter deposit. I go there alot for often the best priced produce.
Another option near the Lafayette Rd/38th street area (on west side) for a WIDE variety of produce, fresh meat, fresh fish (many still swimming), and world wide food products is Saraga International Market. It is huge!! You should feel comfortable there no matter what ethnicity you are. There are all kinds of people that shop there and their workers represent several cultures. It is the blending pot of Indy-- truly International. I like getting produce there--and yummy shrimp chips.
