Default night terrors?

Izzy will randomly start shrieking bloody murder in the middle of her sleep, then she'll be fine maybe a whimper here or there. Occasionally she'll shriek again. If you wake her, she'll scream more for awhile until she realizes, "oh, i'm with my parents. it's okay. i'm awake." Could it be night terrors? i thought she would be too young for this but the more it happens & the more i read about it, it sounds about right. any ideas? i feel so bad for her & don't know what to do.

How old is she? She could be a little young. . .night terrors tend to hit after 1 year. OTOH, she probably didn't read the book that says that. Try not waking her and just observing and see what happens. When little kids have night terrors you make it much, much worse by waking them up. My general thought though is that it's probably something else bothering her at this age. But if you leave her be and she settles back into sleep easily without fully waking up then perhaps. . .

could it be wind pain or maybe even colic... Gabby seemed to have had one of those and i use to settle her asleep in my arms and then she would start wimpering and scream, but she would be awake by the time she got to the scream

i agree with Val i think she's a bit young for it, 2 of my children had it and my 7 year old still has some and i found that for me the only thing that works is i have to wake her up cause if i put her back to sleep she'll awake again and cry and scream again..Is she the insecure type?

she's only 2 months. i don't really know how to identify insecurity in a 2 mo old, but she's not shy if that's what you mean. i don't think it's a colic thing -- doesn't colic mean they can't get to sleep? she certainly sleeps, and she'll be asleep before, during, and after the whole screaming episode. she already "talks" in her sleep, but this isn't like a normal "talking" scream it's like a "i'm scared to death" scream. it's just so weird.
