Default Night Time Feedings

Well Caleb is now 8 days old and is doing great so far. He latches on and feeds very well and when we weight checked him at the doctor when he was 5 days old he was already above his birth weight. My question is, the last few nights he'll go for up to 4 hours straight at night sleeping if I let him. Is it okay to let him sleep or should I try and get him up to feed? I've been feeding him on demand and get him up at night to feed as soon as I hear him stirring and making little hungry noises.

I followed the baby's lead. As long as he's gaining weight, that is fine.

Are you kidding me? SLEEP!!!!! It won't last long. He will hit a growth spurt and then you'll be wondering what happened. Let him sleep when he wants and feed him when he wants. It's find to let him sleep as long as he wants.

enjoy your sleep youll need it when you are feeding every hour, which takes 1/2 an hour, and that means youll only be sleeping about 15 min! SLEEP WHILE U CAN!

it's better to let him sleep. this way, not only can you get a few extra zzz's but it is ridiculously hard to try to wake a baby & get them to eat.

Don't wake a sleeping (full term) baby that is a good weight and gaining well.
You sleep.
Baby sleeps.

Baby will let you know when he is hungry and ready to eat.

Thanks ladies, I've decided that I should ignore most of what they told me in the hospital about breastfeeding You guys all make a lot more sense to me.

Yes, you should ignore any advice they gave you in the hospital. Some hospitals are very good about having people on board that are really experts at lactation. But lots and lots of moms don't get good advice from the hospital.
