The Democratic Party boss (yeah, we have party bosses here, it is real machine politics oiled by corruption) in my town is so powerful that when he's not around, and decisions have to be made by elected officials, alert citizens ask "where's Waldo?" His name isn't Waldo, but everyone knows who they mean. He actually sits in the audience at public meetings and shakes his head yes or no - and the democrats vote accordingly.

There are local democrats who are trying to change that, and they won the primary. I doubt the Democratic party organization will help them win the general election. Last time an "outsider" challenged the party and won the nomination, the party actually helped the Republicans with negative campaigning.

I am finally leaving NJ when my youngest graduates. Can't wait. I have better things to do with my money than enrich these robber barons. Tony Soprano is in the wrong business. In NJ, here is where the real dangerous mob is - public office!
