Smile No Apology Needed

I don't feel like I should always be apologizing for my daughter ("perfect" as he calls her) who has worked hard in planning her life while his daughter has shifted her priorities into the "always party mode".
I just don't know the proper response for this when he brings this matter up.
Opinions?
