Default no lights for Christmas!

Just need a place to vent....

Ok, so, I live in New England. We were severly affected by the ice storm last Thursday (one week ago) and lost power immediately. We have now been without power for a full week and are expected to get a snow storm tomorrow and another on Sunday. Each of these will delay our power restoration. The utility company is now saying not to expect it before Christmas! With hopes of restoration before New Year's!

Christmas will be 2 full weeks without electricity. New Year's would be three!

We are going nuts. With DS's special diet, we are unable to go out to eat often, and we can only have so much soup heated on the woodstove!

I just want to be able to do laundry, vacuum, cook! - All the normal things I HATE to do!

It really is terrible. I hope you can stay warm. Please be careful with the woodstove. You don't want a fire to add to your woes.

I understand how you feel. Last year in Oklahoma we had a really bad ice storm and we didn't have power for a week. It was fun the first few days but after that I was ready for some power. I had heat but no water and no bathroom. We lived in our living room that entire time. I hope your power comes back on soon and before Christmas. I'll be saying a prayer for you.

What town do you live in? I live in Wilton, NH and we just got our power back on tonight around 9 pm. Hopefully the power company will come through for you before Christmas.

So sorry to hear about the power outage!
Prayers for you too.

Could you purchase a generator?

Hopefully the power company will get things running for you in the next few hours.

(((Hugs)))

Thanks everyone for your well wishes and prayers. They DID get our power back on before Christmas! Actually got our power back on Dec 22. Eleven days without power was enough!

We did end up borrowing a generator from my MIL. Thankfully, she had power and didn't need it. We still only ran minimal lights, no dryer, no dishwasher. But we had water!! (no electricity means no well pump!) And heat!!

Oddly, the day before they 'energized' our neighborhood, DH called the power company and explained our situation. (The power lines were intact, but torn from the pole. Still attached to the house.) The power company told us that the field crew would see they were down, assume they were broken and cut us loose. Essentially energizing everybody else in the town, then coming back to us when they were done with all the other customers! Could take up to two more weeks. NO WAY was DH going to allow that. So, in the middle of a snowstorm, with the wires buried under two feet of snow, DH pulls out his extension ladder and we attached the wires ourselves - Well, he did, I was there for moral support and to call 911 if necessary. :-O
I don't recommend it, but we got our power before Christmas!
