Yes, I have been through this. My circumstances are not the norm. It is common for a child to go for a while without gaining weight and then have a growth spurt to 'catch up'. So, talk to your pediatrician, if they aren't concerned, then I'd suggest just keeping an eye on him.
My DS gained less than two lbs from his first birthday to his second birthday. He was technically losing weight because he had grown in height. We didn't know it at the time, but he had the classic malnourished look. (Distended belly, no rear end) His issue was not that he wasn't eating, but he was vomitting - A LOT!
After a bunch of tests, we found that he has Celiac Disease and gluten (a protein found in wheat, rye & barley) has damaged his intestines - which caused the vomiting and malnourishment. He is now thriving on his new diet and has gained a bunch of weight in just the past two months.
Like I said, my story isn't typical, and I suspect your boy will be approaching a growth spurt, but if not there is a ton of info out there on things like Celiac, food intolerances, allergies, etc. I can point you to some great references, we went thru them all.
