Question Not gaining weight...

I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. My little man gained less than a pound between his 9 month and 15 month check ups. I attribute it tothe fact that he's become more active, especially when he learned how to crawl and walk. He seems to like to snack throughout the day rather than eating three meals and a snack or two a day. We give him whatever he wants- the only restriction we have are peanuts. In any case, the doctors have taken him off of milk, and we have to give him Pediasure for a month. If he doesn't gain weight, they want to start tests or to send us to a specialist. Has anyone else gone through this?

Yes, I have been through this. My circumstances are not the norm. It is common for a child to go for a while without gaining weight and then have a growth spurt to 'catch up'. So, talk to your pediatrician, if they aren't concerned, then I'd suggest just keeping an eye on him.

My DS gained less than two lbs from his first birthday to his second birthday. He was technically losing weight because he had grown in height. We didn't know it at the time, but he had the classic malnourished look. (Distended belly, no rear end) His issue was not that he wasn't eating, but he was vomitting - A LOT!

After a bunch of tests, we found that he has Celiac Disease and gluten (a protein found in wheat, rye & barley) has damaged his intestines - which caused the vomiting and malnourishment. He is now thriving on his new diet and has gained a bunch of weight in just the past two months.

Like I said, my story isn't typical, and I suspect your boy will be approaching a growth spurt, but if not there is a ton of info out there on things like Celiac, food intolerances, allergies, etc. I can point you to some great references, we went thru them all.

Jamie hasn't gained weight in a long time, I think it's fairly normal to thin out at this age to be honest, losing the baby fat. Even if they are technicaly losing weight due to height increase, as long as on the scales they aren't losing weight, I wouldn't be overly worried.
