Default Not sleeping through the night at 10 months

I have to ask for some advice from all of you. Amber doesn't sleep through the night, and it appears to be getting worse.

She used to just wake for about 3-4 oz around 1 or 2 am. Now the last few nights she has taken upwards of 10 oz at that feeding. She doesn't eat as much during the day as our older daughter did (and I attributed that to "every kid is different") but I'm starting to get concerned that she's not just in a growth spurt, but rather she's developed a habit of waking up for an entire meal supplement!

When she does wake up, she often won't go back to sleep in her crib, and ends up spending the rest of the night in with DH and I. I'm getting frustrated because I can't sleep well when she's in with us. I have tried several times with putting her in her crib, but she screams and ends up standing up and continuing to scream until someone comes and gets her. She'll then fall asleep in our arms, but when we go to put her back in her crib, she wakes and it starts over again.

Our older DD was never like this. I have no idea how I can get Amber to sleep in her own bed for the second half of the night, and any ideas are appreciated!

I have no suggestions because I would approach the situation entirely differently BUT. . .I have to tell you that your spouse looks like the guy who plays the character Gary in Remember the Titans.

Annamae Aiden started to do this too at around that age....We tried some advice Mel (prettybub) and some other wonderful girls gave us.

I quote her

Do that for a few minutes and then Stretch it out to a two minute stretch but never longer then 5 mins. Always settling till they stop crying. By Patting and shhhhh-ing. I took me and my health nursed 30 mins the first time to settle her and One go the second! And then she got better and better and eventually just went to sleep when put in her cot. I know this is not something for everyone, But it worked for me.

It also worked for us BUT you have to maintain no eye contact and don't pick her up. Or this will never work. It was hard at first but Aiden knew we would always come back and eventually learnt to settle himself. It may take a few days..so make sure you have the time to do this....such as a week-end.

Good luck

CeJay did this too... I didn't realize the pattern until it was to late... So when he woke up, I would give him his bottle in the crib. It was a pain in the tush, because I didn't let him see me, I would hand him the bottle, then duck down and stick my hand through the rails and feed him that way and soon he started to hold the bottle on his own and I would hand it to him, and walk away slowly. Then after a week or so of that, I would hand it to him and walk out. Soon after that, he was back to sleeping through the night. HTH

Thanks, ladies. I'm hoping that it was just a growth spurt -- today she isn't really eating or drinking much, but sleeping regularly. She's asleep now, and I'm going to rouse her soon to offer another 6 ounces and we'll see what happens.

I am interested in the "Self Settle" technique. But I'll take your advice and start that on the weekend if this doesn't subside by then

Default Update!!!

Well, I learned a few things!

First of all, it was a growth spurt! Amber is needing to move to the 12 - 18 months clothes now. She grew very fast, very quickly.

Second, she cut two teeth the very next day after I originally posted this. Not sure how I missed that...

Third, of the last week, she has slept through the night 5 times. The other two were waking up for gas, and last night, she threw up. (Not sure why.)

Things have been a lot better, and everyone's advice was really appreciated!!!!

Thanks so much!

Sorry I missed your original post, but glad to hear Amber is doing better at night! Yay! Seems like teeth, growth, just about anything can throw them off for a bit. We are dealing with that here too with colds/coughs ugh!
