Just wondering if anyone else is dealing with OCD in a young child?

There must be some other families dealing with OCD in children.
Hoping that someone else will post and be able to talk w/ you.

I have a child with OCD only it manifest itself in an odd way. I would never have guessed that was her issue. We went to a doctor because of voices and were told about her OCD. What is happening with you?

Well my youngest is having a bunch of obsessive behaviors just popping out. She is currently being evaluated for it and also Dyslexia.
*She is compulsive about her and other peoples nails.
*She has to be ready hours before we go somewhere because her clothes have to be laying perfect on her or she will change 1 billion times..
*She can not get a cut on her hands because that is all she will focus on for days if she does.
*She has to have a certain amount of pages of school work (8 everyday) or she will not feel as if she did anything,
*In karate she HAS to do things perfect or she gets so mad she can not function..
EVERYTHING has to be a certain way with her!!
Reminding you all that she just turned 5......
I am getting used to it. At first it was driving me insane, but no so much anymore. It doesn't bug me anymore when she grabs my hands and starts to clip or bit my nails. I gave it because I know she just can not help it..
How do you cope with those really bad days??

Did you do an IQ-test? It's pretty early because she's "only" five, but high IQ can cause similar symptoms like OCD. You need a really sensitive person to make sure there is no mistake. Over here many many children are diagnosed with ADHS, although that's not their real problem. It's just handy for some people you might think. Especially if they can sell pills. Also there are developmental changes at this age that can also interfer with any behavior caused by whatever disease. Maybe you can find a really good specialist.

She is developmentally delayed and is not even at a 5 year level with most things. No IQ test yet, but she gets evaluated every 6 months. She is also not mentally up there with her age..
Do you mean ADHD? She is being watched for that, but this is something completely different.
We are working on her compulsive behaviors in therapy now....
She has however developed a new OCD behavior..... bathing.... She will take several baths or showers a day. Yeah she takes baths by herself already...

Yes, compulsive washing is certainly an OCD behavior. Also cutting. But that usually does not happen until the teens as far as I know. It may be why when she gets a cut she focuses on it for days.
My adolescent son's cutting stopped when he started taking Zoloft. Don't know what options you have for medication with all that is going on with her at such a young age. Zoloft does not get prescribed for depression in children, but is approved for OCD in some cases. With us, it helped the depression and anxiety too.

She isn't cutting herself.. When she gets cut she focuses... Its not just focusing on it. It is like it is almost... well she looks like she is having anxiety attacks... She will chew till she bleeds, but that has already been said to be associated with her PICA.
I am hoping to help it with just therapy. I really don't want to add another medication to her daily cocktail he is already taking.

By focusing, do you mean that she puts all her attention on the wound, picks at it, is engrossed by it, etc? Or is it an anxiety thing about bleeding or being hurt?
No, the chewing is a different thing, likely not OCD

She puts all her attention to it, scratches at it because she tries to make it go away. She will make it worse. She will not let it go.. It is like nothing else in the world exists when she has a cut on her hand.
The chewing is something else.. It is PICA...
