Default Overactive Thyroid and Anxiety

The first thing anyone with recurrent anxiety should do is ask their doctor for a thyroid function test. An overactive thyroid can cause feelings of anxiety among other symptoms, and should be eliminated as a possible cause prior to other treatments such as counseling or medication.

If you have put on weight then you are more likely to have an underactive thyroid. Overactive thyroids are more likely to result in weight loss. Do you feel sluggish, tired and lacking in energy? If not then the anxiety is likely to be due to some other cause.

I was lacking a lot of energy for a while. But I still was going about my daily life as usual. Aty kleast not a decrease in physical activity worth 30 pounds! I'm hitting the doctor this week. I feel like its somehting more than likely I should have addressed.

That doesn't sound good. omething sounds like it's out of whack and maybe you should get a doctor to check it out. You'd have to buy bigger clothes, so unless you've developed a new addiction over winter to some sort of naughty comfort food, I'd get it checked out. Besides it's swimsuit time - best time to get motivated to lose weight by whatever means!

Default Thyroid health

Anyone who wants to know about thyroid problems should read the book "Thyroid power : ten steps to total health " written by Richard L. Shames and Karilee H. Shames. This is a great book that gives you good information.

Thanks for that tip. No doubt there are plenty of other useful books on thyroid problems out there too. The main thing is to be awar that this tiny little gland can have such profound effects on the body when it all goes wrong, yet many of them are subtle and take time to manifest. Asking your doctor for a thyroid function test every five years or so would be a good health precaution, as sometimes subclinical problems with the thyroid can just make you feel out of sorts and not know why. Bouts of unaccountable tiredness would be one example.

Default Doctors and thyroid problems

The humand body is so sensitive and everyone is very unique in their makeup that general "tests" that are done in the lab can be inconclusive. I know I am a chemist. Also by choice I am a massage therapist and work with and study the different systems in the body. The book thyroid power was brought to my attention by my doctor while I was working with him on a weight loss program. I read it and was amazed by what these guys had to say. They share their clinical experience and give lots of information on symptoms and lab tests. The book gives you information to talk to your doctor about. The other route I would recomend would be to see an endocrinologist - some one who has studied how the bodies systems work together

Please help me.. I just had my thyroid checked yesterday.
I have not got the results yet.
I exercise like crazy. I burn AT LEAST 1600 calories a day off in exercise. I do not eat more than 1800 a day (and that is an unusual thing- most days it is 1200-1600)
And I am STILL gaining weight. Something is not right with my body.
I showed my doctor my diet and exercise log and his response:
YOu must be cheating somewhere.
He also suggested I UP the intensity if my exercise.
EXCUSE ME
I lift weights 10-20lbs 45 mins a day
Elliptical 1- 1.5 hours a day (with 10lbs weights on ankles and 4lbs weights on wrists)
Walk 2- 3.5 miles every afternoon

That is the MINIMUM I do. Some days I swim on top of that or do 1/2hr more elliptical.

Something is not right with my body and I am getting frustrated trying to get doctors to listen to me and not assume that I am doing something bad that is making me fat.

Why not wait till the results come in.. They may show up something.
