Default PAGES & PAGES!! What about extended threads?

O.K. I am not sure if I am phrasing this correctly. I use Rootsweb & other forums that let the user reply to one person specifically and it will have a thread extended from the original. Here it seems the threads are an abundance of pages and you have to be specific, quote or mention the person you're responding to although it might still be on topic and alright for the thread posters to chime in, it just seems so dragged out. What do you think? Is there something I don't know that can fix it? Is this done to keep everyone's message out in the open and not have to click on the REplies? Maybe that's all I need is a RE:name of individual i am speaking to.

??

It is a different kind of format - more on a topic than responses for individual posts, although we can quote individual posts.

But yes, there are threads that go on - we prune some, split off into different threads for others, but it isn't the same sort of thing as the outline form to just read certain responses.

If you are looking to see just what one individual said, you can click their username - you will find then that you have the option to view all posts made by that user. The most recent posts are listed first.

Thank you both for the help. I did try displaying other modes. Now I just need to decide which I prefer. I now am wondering if it's my computer or the format on families, but there is a lot of blank next to the small light green colum to the left, then after scrolling down a ways, I find the forum posts. (now looking for a tech page within families to ask about this) When I reply, it is on top, but only then.
