Default Parent of children with mild hearing loss

Hi! My children were recently diagnosed with a mild hearing loss--although the reason for the loss has yet to be discovered. We are heading to a geneticist to see if we can learn more.

I'm interested in "meeting" other parents of children with hearing loss.

I believe that we have finally made a good match with an audiologist and ENT who are looking out for our best interests. Getting a diagnosis was a long time coming and rather frustrating. But, now that the diagnosis is here and hearing aids are in place, I feel like we're getting great service from the program we have chosen (SLP, audiology services on a routine basis, ENT/pediatrician/geneticist working together, etc.)

I'm just interested in hearing about others' experiences and learning any tidbits that may be useful to us going forward--questions that are useful to ask our doctors, services that may be available in our community that I haven't been told about, issues we should look out for as the boys are mainstreamed with a mild disability...I'm sure there are more concerns I'm not even aware of...

Perhaps there is a forum/website that has a more active hearing loss community? If anyone has come across one, that would be great to know. My google searches have lead me on long, winding roads and I don't have enough computer time to hunt around as much as I should.

Welcome! My son had a hearing loss that he grew out of as his ears healed. He had a series of very serious ear infections that weren't treated in time...it took a few years for him to hear properly. He was almost 4 before he really started talking.

Getting the diagnosis is the hard part. . .getting someone to listen to you and give you good advice is a big deal--way to go on getting a useful diagnosis.

Our oldest has hearing loss, but his is related to his mother inflicting head injuries, the only way you can tell is that he talks quite loudly and if he isn't looking at you he can't hear properly.
