Default Party Snacks

Your husband suddenly comes home with four co-workers for a casual get together. Not planning on their arrival what do you do? Besides kill your husband, what are some easy appetisers you can prepare on the spot and look like the ultimate hostess.

Default Olives, crackers, cheese and salami

I think diced husband might be best (just kidding) I would just go with what's simple. I usually have olives, crackers, cheese and salami in the house.

After I hurry and throw all the laundry in the closet and make sure there's toilet paper in the bathrooms, and no kids were lounging around in their underwear, then I'd look in the freezer for stuff to make smoothies. That usually impresses people, and I've never met anyone who doesn't like a smoothie. I usually have fruit, so I'd quick cut up some of that and then add crackers and cheese. I made popcorn once when I was truly desperate, and this actually turned out to be a hit.

In the winter, I ALWAYS have a pot of soup hanging around. So I heat up the soup when he calls and says they are on their way. I add cheese and some bread. They always say, "oh no, I don't need anything. I put it in a mug and next thing you know they are asking for seconds. In the summer, it is a little trickier. I usually have olive tampenade, cheeses, salami or some kind, crackers- Some times I have used bottled Alfredo sauce with bread "hunks", tortilla with microwaved shredded cheese, salsa, and occasionally I have some frozen TGIF snacks from the Dollar store in the freezer. There is usually something- if nothing else - jezzebel- a layer of cream cheese, a layer of horseradish, and a layer of any flavored jelly. Serve with crackers. Guys especially like that one. I have alway thought I would keep a package of those frozen meatballs in the freezer but I haven't found a "give" away price yet. Oh that reminds me. Frozen pierogies if I have a 20 minute warning. lynclarke
