Pasta Salad Mix - Best By Date Question
Please give me an opinion on a Pasta Salad Box.
It has the dried pasta, dried veggies, and a seasoning packet.
Have to boil the dried pasta & dried veggies,
drain,
mix up the seasoning packet with oil, vinegar, sugar.
My question is this: it has a best use by date of Nov, 07.
Would you use it or not? It looks good & normal.
Please advise.

I wouldn't, but that is just me. You could make it and then see if it turns out ok. Sometimes when things are too old they don't turn out as nice, or taste as good.
Good luck

I'm a weirdo....I don't use ANYTHING after the "sell by" or "best by" date. It doesn't matter what it is. DH gets so made at me cause I toss it as soon as that date passes, even if it may still be good.
But, like I said...I'm a weirdo!

i love that pasta salad!
but i still wouldn't use it. i worry alot about expiration dates. i just looked at my pasta salad box & it says it contains eggs. i'm sure it wouldn't hurt, but i wouldn't risk it.

Oh thank goodness that I am not the only one. DH razzes me all the time..."you are just throwing money away. That is still perfectly fine." Sorry, not in my twisted lil mind it isn't.
Oh, and I cannot eat bread that has been in my house more than 3 days. It doesn't matter what the date says. If it has been there more than 3 days + the time it sat in the store + the time it took to get from the bakery to the store = too old in my book.
Needless to day, I'm a picky eater

How come men will eat any ol' rotten thing? My husband complains if I throw things out too. I've had a few bad experiences with drinking spoiled milk (YUCK) or cottage cheese, etc. that it's made me really, really paranoid.
My husband always says the "Best By" date means just that. It's "best" by that date but it's still "good" after it. If that salad was just a few months past date, I would use it, but 8 months is kinda pushing it. My husband would say "GO FOR IT!!!"

HAA!!!! I am so glad I am not the only weirdo out there!!!! I have friends< and fellow weirdos!!!
I never ever ever use anything past the date. Sometimes I even throw it out on the date. My mom keeps milk till it goes sour!! YUCK! I always check the dates at her house! She thinks I am a freak, but oh well.
Dh gets annoyed with me too, but way back when we were in college I was assistant manger at a resteraunt and in Florida someone in the building has to have attended and passed a course on food safety, after that class I have been a nut. But, who wants food poisoning.
As far as bread goes I am the same way, after a couple of days I won't touch it.......but her in South FL the bread will look fine in the morning and be moldy by lunch time!!!!! (and I mean green) Yuck. And I don't do refridgerated bread........ewwwwwwww
I don't think I am a picky eater, other than the bread thing, but why risk getting ill on something that has gone bad......
Lol

Hmmmm...I'm thinking if all your dh's were in charge of what-gets-tossed-when, you wouldn't have a fridge anymore, but a science experiment.
Angie...if it was me, I wouldn't use it. Mold can grow on dried veggies after a certain amount of time.
