If it's not amniotic fluid, what is it? ~Hospital visit
Last night around 8:15 I felt a trickle. One of those trickles you don't want to feel this early in pregnancy. I went to the bathroom and there was a big wet spot in my underwear. I smelled it and I couldn't tell what it smelled like.
When I got home I felt my belly begin to tighten, like real contractions, not braxton hicks. I actually could feel my uterus gather and lift off of the top of my legs. When I'd have a "contraction" i'd get a pain in my pelvic bones and my back would hurt. I was freaking out. I changed my underwear again and again when I checked a few minutes later, another small wet spot. I called the hospital ER , they said "call your doc , we can't give you any advice."
So I called the answering service and my doc called to tell to go to the ER. They hooked me up to monitors and I was indeed contracting regularly. The doc checked me and I was NOT dialated, thank God. He pulled the swab out and it was clearly wet. He said there was fluid in the vaginal cavity. My husband was just "What does that mean!?"
So they did the ph strip and it was negetive for amniotic fluid. The fern test was also negetive for amnoitic fluid. Meanwhile I was still contracting. The baby's heartrate would go up and down with the contractions. My nurse said that was a good sign that the baby was responding and doing well. WHAT?! I don't understand how a fluctuating heartrate is a good thing!
They gave me a shot to see if it would stop contractions. She said if they stopped it was just braxton hicks, if they didn't it was the real thing. They did slow down but I still am having them here and there, strong enough where I can still feel my uterus lift itself off of my legs and gather. It doesn't hurt though.
So the doc says no caffiene which I am happy about anyway, that gives me a reason why I can't have pop so I don't feel guilty.
So my question is, what's up? What's the fluid? When should I worry?
