Burn Photos to a CD then run it on the TV with no photo software.
This does not seem to be well known but it works for me and my DVD player is 5 years old. You must be able to burn a CD with your existing software.
In a file folder collect JPGs for your album.
Burn this to a CD.
Insert CD into DVD player and it flips through the album on the TV.
The software must be in the DVD player. My DVD player is 5 years old.
This simple procedure worked well for me.
