Pictures of babies with smallpox
Ugh. So I am in school (done in May! yey) for Criminal Justice, and a class that I am taking is Homeland Defense. The textbook we use is incredibly insensitive and blunt, but I guess that's to be expected given the topic! Anyway, this week we are studying current Weapons of Mass Destruction, and one of them is a biological agent that spreads viruses like smallpox. I am particularly sensitive when it comes to suffering children, and our textbook shows a ton of pictures of BABIES and CHILDREN with smallpox, but no pictures of adults!! I know that it was more likely for children and babies to have smallpox, but that's not so anymore. And not to mention, really? Babies?? The authors could get their point across by showing pictures of adults with smallpox... the point of the pictures is to just show what a severely infected person looks like and how damaging (and fatal) it can be if infected.
I know this is kind of a stupid vent, but it seems like the authors really try to pinch the emotions by using a ton of examples and showing pictures of suffering children and babies instead of adults. Grr! The readers can get the point with examples of adults!!!

Most of my books throughout school, college and uni featured children, with a lot of illness children tend to show greater physical symptoms than an adult due to an immature immune system. Not to mention a small child or a baby wont be bothered about being photographed naked for a medical journal, adults however, not so keen! We had one really horrible one, ay had fairly young boy had elephantitis of his doo dar and it had ruptured his skin.

A parasite causes it, which destroys the lymph system, so fluid cannot move freely throughout the body, you see a lot of it in poor areas of Africa, it tends to be in the lower extremities, normally the legs. A man with the condition in his leg.
