Default Pitting Edema, High Blood Pressue and...

Kick Counts and of course Painful swelling. So I ended up being checked by my dr yesterday due to a huge amount of swelling out of no where. I wasnt on my feet at all and I ballooned up. My dr had me come in since I had already had a couple of high blood pressure readings. I cant remember the bottom numbers right now but the first two readings were 148 and 146 over whatever. Well yesterday it wasnt too bad but it was 142 over 70. Drs orders to cut out as much sodium as possible drink more fluids keep feet elevated and try soaking in a tub or a pool. The swelling on my feet is so bad I can not fit into any of my shoes and had to get a drs note for my job to be able to wear flip flops. Now it is starting to cool off here so hopefully it doesnt get too bad last year the kids almost had to trick or treat in the snow. Also baby's movement has slowed down so much that I am now supposed to be doing kick counts at least 3 times a day and my drs office says that there should be six really definate movements in two hours. So I have to drink a liter of water lay on my left side and not move for two hours to make sure baby moves kicks punches or whatever 6 times. I keep falling asleep. So of course I freak out and start over only to fall asleep agian. I have felt the baby move but I havent been able to stay awake to see how much. Hopefully everything works out well and I wont have to worry about these kick counts too much longer. I am supposed to go in for a stress test thing if the baby doesnt move enough so we will see.

Has he checked you protien levels in your urine? It could relate to your edema...Hope it gets better. As for the kicks...my OB told me 5 kicks every hour....I looked it up and every site says that too...I would go by the hour thing.. your more able to stay awake for that period then for 2 whole hours.

PLease listen to your doctor & follow the instructions...for both you and for baby too. Gotta keep baby inside a little bit longer.

Maybe you got dehydrated with the heat. Drink a big glass of water each hour. Plain water or bottled water.

Salt is really sneaky in things you least suspect.
Avoid soda pop. There is a lot of salt in soda pop. Besides, you'll be drinking lots of water and milk right now.

Large amounts of salt are in hot dogs,
lunch meat,
ham,
bacon,
sausage,
cheese,
bologna,
salami,
canned soups,
canned tomatoes,
spaghetti sauce,
pickles/olives/pickle relish.

So what does that leave to eat? Lots of good things for both you and baby.
Bake a fresh chicken breast (add a touch of BBQ sauce),
baked potato,
freshly cooked broccoli,
fresh fruit.

Have a hamburger (make your own),
add a bun,
add lettuce,
tomato slice,
slice onion,
add small amount of ketchup & mustard.
Look at packaged freezer fries ingredients- usually very little to no salt, eat some of these.
If you really like ketchup a lot, purchase a bottle of no added salt ketchup.

Make a chicken breast w/ some rice. Add a fresh salad and its a meal.

If you have to have a sandwich - deli roast beef has the least amount of sodium or make a chicken sandwich (cook it yourself).

Campbells soup makes low sodium or no added salt soups. They cost more, but have much less salt.

(((Hugs))) and prayers!
