Default Pollen Allergy

I am severely allergic to pollen. I cant seem to take anything to help it. The only thing that helps is benedryl but it makes me so sleepy. I used to take claritin but it is too expensive. I have not been able to find anything that helps. My eyes are the worst of it. I can deal with the sneezing. But my eyes end up itching like crazy and they turn red and get swollen. Anyone know any ideas on some good allergy relief for a pregnant person?

Red face Hi

When I was pregnant I could take all my presciptions for allergies . So the best abet is to see your Doc , if he give you a prescipition and it does not work go back they do have other things , or better yet go see a allergiest doc they great .....all the best to you and your bundle

Ask your Dr about allergy shots. I spoke with my Allergy Dr about continuing allergy shots whenever I am pregnant and she told me that there are mixed views on this. Some babies benefit (as well as mom) from this. But ask your Dr about them. I have really BAD allergies and am on shots. I get them once a week. Have you tried any claratin store brands? I know HEB, WalMart, and Walgreens have their forms of claratin. But in all escence I'd ask your Dr. I hear you on the price of claritin. It is so expensive and you only a few pills!

I would say check with your doctor before taking anything (even over the counter). As for allergy releif, what has always worked best for me without drowsiness is Chlortrimeton (aka Chlorpheniramine). It is an antihistemine only, no decongestant. Benedryl does help w/the symptoms, but who can live with being drowsy all the time.

Actually, a lot of the "new meds" work the same way, but some people will swear by one. It is really trial and error. Benedryl will put you to sleep, so do not take it in the morning. You can add some nasal spray, such as afrin to open up your nasal passages, but do not use longer than 4 days. It will cause a rebound - increase nasal discharge....

Default Allergie

Hi....

First, you must know what you are truly allergic to...do you have pets? You may be allergic to something you are eating, pet dander (bathe once a week), dust mites (clear clutter as much as possible...vacuum (there are vacuums with HEPA filters, or double bagging may help) everything regularly, (you may need to cover pillows, mattresses, springs with covers made speciffically to repel allergens...sold in drugstores and deptmet stores), baseboards (if any mold or mildew use mild solution of bleach water to clean anything that won't color bleach out), clothes dryers can give off fine particles of lint and dust (clean filters after every drying) and make sure the dryer hose is completely sealed. You could be allergic to your spouse! One gal's lips were swollen after a kiss from her boyfriend who had just eaten shrimp...she reacted big time!... was allergic to shellfish! Both may have to eliminate the same food to be safeSo a clean mouth could also be the answer if allergic to something that leaves a residue after eating....??.........
